The Lunar New Year is the most important and meaningful holiday of the year for Vietnamese people. It marks the transition between the old and new year according to the lunar calendar, deeply reflecting the nation's traditional cultural identity.
According to the lunar calendar, 2025 is the year of the Snake. The first day of Lunar New Year will fall on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, in the solar calendar.
Per Announcement 6150/TB-BLDTBXH dated December 3, 2024, the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs of Vietnam announced the 2025 Lunar New Year holiday schedule as follows:
(1) Officials and public employees, as well as employees in administrative agencies, non-business units, political organizations, and socio-political organizations (hereinafter referred to as officials and public employees), will be off for the 2025 Lunar New Year from Saturday, January 25, 2025, in the solar calendar (equivalent to the 26th of the 12th lunar month of the Giap Thin year) until the end of Sunday, February 2, 2025, in the solar calendar (equivalent to the 5th of the 1st lunar month of the At Ty year). This period includes 5 days of the Lunar New Year holiday and 4 regular weekly days off.
(2) For employees not defined in section 1 of Announcement 6150/TB-BLDTBXH, employers may choose one of the following options for the 2025 Lunar New Year holiday:
- For the Lunar New Year holiday: Choose either 1 day at the end of the Giap Thin year and 4 days at the beginning of the At Ty year, or 2 days at the end of the Giap Thin year and 3 days at the beginning of the At Ty year, or 3 days at the end of the Giap Thin year and 2 days at the beginning of the At Ty year.
- If the weekly days off coincide with public holidays as specified in section 1, Article 112 of the Labor Code 2019, employees are entitled to compensatory leave on the next working day as provided in section 3, Article 111 of the Labor Code 2019.
Thus, officials and public employees will have the 2025 Lunar New Year holiday from January 25, 2025 (equivalent to the 26th of the 12th lunar month of the Giap Thin year) to February 2, 2025 (equivalent to the 5th of the 1st lunar month of the At Ty year), totaling 9 days.
For employees, since this year is immediately preceded by a weekend of two days, Saturday and Sunday on January 25-26, 2025, equivalent to the 26th and 27th of the 12th lunar month. Following the official holiday period are the next weekend days, Saturday and Sunday on February 1-2, 2025.
Therefore, employees may also enjoy a continuous 9-day Lunar New Year holiday in 2025, similar to officials and public employees.
Based on Article 98 of the Labor Code 2019 concerning overtime wages, night-time work wages:
Article 98. Overtime wages, night-time work wages
1. Employees who work overtime are paid based on salary unit price or actual salary for the current job as follows:
a) On regular working days, at least 150% is paid;
b) On weekly rest days, at least 200% is paid;
c) On public holidays, Tet holidays, paid leave days, at least 300% is paid, not including wages for holidays, Tet holidays, paid leave days for employees receiving daily wages.
2. Employees working at night are paid an additional amount of at least 30% of the salary unit price or the actual salary for the current regular working day.
3. Employees working overtime at night are paid, in addition to the wage according to sections 1 and 2 of this Article, an additional 20% of the salary unit price or the salary for daytime work on regular working days or weekly rest days or public holidays, Tet holidays.

According to the above regulations, employees working during the 2025 Lunar New Year period will be paid as follows:
- Daytime work: At least 300% of the regular working day wage.
- Nighttime work: At least 390% of the regular working day wage. (300% (overtime wages for public holidays and Tet) + 30% (night work) + 20% x actual daily wage for daytime work on public holidays and Tet (300%) = 390%)
Note: This wage rate does not include the daily wage for Tet holidays with paid day off entitlement for employees receiving daily wages.
Thus, employees working on Tet will earn at least 400% of their regular wages for daytime work and at least 490% for nighttime work.
