2. Learning results in each semester and school year
For subjects assessed via both feedback and scores, DTBmhk is used to assess learning results of a student in each semester while DTBmcn is used to assess learning results of a student in the entire school year. Learning results of a student in each semester and in the entire school year shall be assessed by one of 4 categories: Excellent, Good, Qualified, Unqualified.
a) Excellent:
- All subjects assessed with feedback are placed in Qualified category.
- All subjects assessed by both feedback and scores have minimum scores of 6.5 for DTBmhk and DTBmcn with 6 subjects among which have minimum scores of 8.0 for DTBmhk and DTBmcn.
b) Good:
- All subjects assessed with feedback are placed in Qualified category.
- All subjects assessed by both feedback and scores have minimum scores of 5.0 for DTBmhk and DTBmcn with 6 subjects among which have minimum scores of 6.5 for DTBmhk and DTBmcn.
c) Qualified:
- Have no more than 1 subject assessed via feedback placed in Unqualified category.
- At least 6 subjects assessed by both feedback and scores have minimum scores of 5.0 for DTBmhk and DTBmcn with 0 subjects have scores lower than 3.4 for DTBmhk and DTBmcn.
d) Unqualified: Remaining cases.
Article 21 of Circular 22/2021/TT-BGDDT states:
Entry into force
1. This Circular comes into force from September 5, 2021 according to following roadmap:
- From school year of 2021-2022 for the 6th grade.
- From school year of 2022-2023 for the 7th and 10th grade.
- From school year of 2023-2024 for the 8th and 11th grade.
- From school year of 2024-2025 for the 9th and 12th grade.

What are the required traits for secondary school students in Vietnam?
According to the regulations in the General Education Program issued with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, the five main traits required for secondary school students in Vietnam are clearly defined as follows:
(1) Patriotism
- Actively participate in activities to protect nature.
- Be aware of family, lineage, and hometown traditions; actively study and practice to uphold the traditions of the family, lineage, and hometown.
- Be conscious of protecting cultural heritage, actively engage in activities to preserve and promote the value of cultural heritage.
(2) Kindness
Love for people
- Respect the honor, health, and privacy of others.
- Oppose evil and wrongdoings; do not support or participate in violent activities; be ready to protect the disadvantaged,...
- Actively participate in charity work and community service activities.
Respect for individual differences
- Respect differences in perceptions and individual styles of others.
- Respect cultural diversity within the Vietnamese ethnic community and other ethnic groups.
- Empathize with and be willing to help others.
(3) Diligence
Love for learning
- Strive for good results in learning.
- Enjoy reading books and newspapers, and seek information online to expand knowledge.
- Be conscious of applying knowledge and skills learned at school, from books, and other reliable sources to study and daily life.
Hard work
- Participate in household, production work according to actual demands, suitable to personal capacity and conditions.
- Strive for good results in school and community labor.
- Be aware of effectively learning subjects, and vocational content; have knowledge of a common profession.
(4) Honesty
- Consistently align words with actions.
- Honestly recognize personal shortcomings and take responsibility for all personal words and actions.
- Respect the truth; defend good values; remain objective and fair in cognition and behavior.
- Do not infringe on public belongings.
- Combat dishonest behavior in learning and life.
(5) Responsibility
Responsibility towards oneself
- Maintain hygiene habits, body training, and health care.
- Preserve and responsibly use personal belongings.
- Be conscious of time efficiency; use time wisely; establish and implement reasonable study and lifestyle schedules.
- Do not blame others; acknowledge and find ways to remedy one's own mistakes.
Responsibility towards family
- Be attentive to family tasks.
- Be conscious of personal and family financial savings.
Responsibility towards school and society
- Be attentive to community tasks; actively participate in collective activities and community service.
- Respect and obey public place rules; adhere well to traffic laws; be conscious in community activities and local festivals.
- Disapprove of behaviors inappropriate to cultural living standards and public rules.
- Engage responsibly in the Internet and social media; do not enable dissemination of information that could harm the dignity of organizations or individuals or negatively affect cultural norms, and social safety.
Responsibility for the living environment
- Live in harmony and friendliness with nature.
- Be aware and ready to participate in propagating care and protection of nature; oppose acts harmful to nature.
- Understand and be prepared to engage in activities about climate change awareness and response.
What are the responsibilities of homeroom teachers in assessing secondary school students in Vietnam?
According to Article 20 of Circular 22/2021/TT-BGDDT, the responsibilities of homeroom teachers in student assessment are as follows:
- Assist principals in managing assessment of students according to this Circular.
- Verify revision of scores and/or assessment categories of subject teachers; consolidate training and learning results of students in each semester and the entire school year in student monitor and assessment records (by classes) and education records.
- Assess training results of each semester and the entire school year of students; produce lists of students eligible for grade advancement, re-assessment of specific subjects, training during summer break, class retention, and commendation.
- Record or fill assessment results of each student in student monitor and assessment records (by classes) and education records:
+ Feedback on training and learning results of students; assessment category of training and learning results of students.
+ Whether students are eligible for grade advancement or grade retention; recognized for completion of lower secondary education level, upper secondary education level or failure to complete lower secondary education level, upper secondary education level; commendations.
- Instruct students on how to conduct self-assessment during training and learning process. Cooperate with subject teachers, The Ho Chi Minh Young Pioneer Organization, Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, Representative Committees of students’ parents of classes, and relevant agencies, organizations, individuals in educating students and receiving information on training and learning process of students.
