Based on Clause 3, Article 2 of Decision 2045/QD-BGDDT in 2024, holidays and Tet breaks for students are implemented in accordance with the regulations of the Labor Code 2019 and the annual guiding documents.
Additionally, referring to Announcement 5015/TB-LDTBXH in 2023, the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs announced the schedule for National Day holiday in 2024 for administrative agencies, public service units, political organizations, socio-political organizations, businesses, and other employers as follows:
[1] Officials and public employees (including employees of administrative agencies, public service units, political organizations, and socio-political organizations, hereinafter referred to as officials and public employees) are entitled to a National Day holiday in 2024 from Saturday, August 31, 2024, to the end of Tuesday, September 3, 2024, Gregorian calendar. This break includes 2 National Day holidays and 2 weekly days off.
[2] Agencies and units implementing the National Day holiday schedule in 2024 should arrange and organize work departments suitably to ensure continuous work handling and good service to organizations and the public.
[3] Agencies and units that do not have fixed weekly days off on Saturdays and Sundays will arrange holiday schedules based on the specific programs and plans of their respective units.
Thus, students will have a continuous 4-day off during National Day on September 2, 2024.
*Note: For agencies, units, schools, etc., that do not have fixed days off on the weekends, the holiday schedule will be arranged based on their specific programs and plans, in conformity with the law, and the makeup class schedules will follow the specific guidance from each locality.

When does the 2024-2025 school year in Vietnam start?
Based on Decision 2045/QD-BGDDT in 2024 on the time frame for the 2024-2025 school year for preschool education, general education, and continuing education:
The Ministry of Education and Training launched the time frame for the 2024 - 2025 school year for preschool education, general education, and continuing education applied nationwide as follows:
- Schools start at the earliest one week before the school opening date. For grade 1, schools start at the earliest two weeks before the school opening date.
- The school opening ceremony is on September 5, 2024.
- The first semester ends before January 18, 2025, and the school year ends before May 31, 2025.
- Primary school graduation and lower secondary school graduation recognition must be made before June 30, 2025.
- Admission to first-grade classes must be completed before July 31, 2025.
- The high school graduation exam in 2025 is expected to be held on June 26 and June 27, 2025.
Thus, the school year 2024-2025 starts on September 5, 2024.
What are regulations on exemption tuition fees for students in the 2024-2025 school year in Vietnam?
According to Official Dispatch 2179/BGDDT-KHTC in 2024, tuition fees for the 2024-2025 school year will be applied according to Decree 97/2023/ND-CP.
The implementation of policies on tuition fee exemptions, reductions, support for study expenses, and support for tuition fee payment will be in conformity with Chapter 4 of Decree 81/2021/ND-CP. For instance, from the 2024-2025 school year, 5-year-old children in preschool education as specified in Clause 6, Article 15 of Decree 81/2021/ND-CP are entitled to tuition fee exemptions (effective from September 1, 2024).
As stipulated in Clause 6, Article 15 of Decree 81/2021/ND-CP, the groups eligible for tuition fee exemptions in the respective year are:
(1) Subjects stipulated by Ordinance on Preferential Treatment of People with Meritorious Services to the Revolution 2020 if attending educational institutions within the national education system.
(2) Children attending preschool education and students with disabilities.
(3) Children attending preschool education and students under 16 years old who have no caregiving sources, and persons aged 16 to 22 years old studying at general education institutions, higher education institutions for their first degree, receiving monthly social allowances as per Clause 1 and Clause 2, Article 5 of Decree 20/2021/ND-CP dated March 15, 2021, of the Government of Vietnam, regarding social assistance policies for beneficiaries. Students studying intermediate and college education without both parents and having no support according to regulations.
(4) Children attending preschool education and students at general education institutions, learners at continuing education institutions following general education programs whose parents or both parents, or grandparents (in case of living with grandparents) belong to households classified as poor households as stipulated by the Prime Minister of the Government of Vietnam.
(5) 5-year-old children attending preschool education in particularly difficult communes/villages, area III communes in ethnic minority and mountainous regions, particularly difficult coastal and island communes/areas as recognized by competent authorities.
(6) 5-year-old children in preschool education not specified in Clause 5 of this Article will be exempt from tuition fees from the 2024-2025 academic year (effective from September 1, 2024).
(7) Children attending preschool education and students at general education institutions, learners at continuing education institutions following general education programs who are biological or legally adopted children of non-commissioned officers, soldiers on active duty as stipulated in Clause 2, Article 6 of Decree 27/2016/ND-CP.
(8) Lower secondary school students in particularly difficult communes/villages, area III communes in ethnic minority and mountainous regions, particularly difficult coastal and island communes/areas as recognized by competent authorities will be exempt from tuition fees from the 2022-2023 academic year (effective from September 1, 2022).
(9) Lower secondary school students not specified in Clause 8 of this Article will be exempt from tuition fees from the 2025-2026 academic year (effective from September 1, 2025).
(10) Students, including those attending domestic training programs lasting three months or more as part of the policies applicable to local training at higher education and vocational education institutions within the national education system or following Government of Vietnam stipulations.
(11) Students attending ethnic boarding schools, pre-university schools, or pre-university faculties.
(12) Students enrolled in vocational education and higher education institutions who belong to ethnic minorities, where their parents, or both parents, or grandparents (in case of living with grandparents) belong to poor and near-poor households as recognized by the Prime Minister of the Government of Vietnam.
(13) Students enrolled in Marxism-Leninism and Ho Chi Minh Thought specializations.
(14) Students, master's students, and doctorate candidates in specific specializations such as leprosy, tuberculosis, psychiatry, forensic medicine, forensic psychiatry, and pathology training at public medical training institutions based on state training orders.
(15) Students from very small ethnic minority groups as specified in Clause 1, Article 2 of Decree 57/2017/ND-CP.
(16) Learners that are policy beneficiaries or participants in specific government programs or projects will be exempt from tuition fees in line with Government of Vietnam regulations.
(17) Learners who have graduated from lower secondary education and continue to study at the intermediate level.
(18) Learners at the intermediate and college levels in hard-to-enroll but socially-needed fields as listed by the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids, and Social Affairs.
(19) Learners in special disciplines required to meet socioeconomic development, defense, and security needs according to the Vocational Education Law. Specialized fields will be specified by the Prime Minister of the Government of Vietnam.
