Will Informatics and Technology be included in the high school graduation exam in Vietnam in 2025?

Based on Section 5 of the Plan for organizing the Exam and recognizing graduation from high school starting from 2025 issued together with Decision No. 4068/QD-BGDDT in 2023:

Exam Subjects:

Candidates are required to take the Literature and Mathematics exams and select 2 out of the remaining subjects that are taught in grade 12 (Foreign Language, History, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography, Economic and Legal Education, Informatics, Technology).

Candidates will take 4 subjects, including 2 optional subjects from the following: Foreign Language, History, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography, Economic and Legal Education, Informatics, Technology.

Therefore, in the 2025 national high school graduation exam, candidates may choose to take Informatics and Technology.

Additionally, the National High School Graduation Exam will be organized nationwide with a common schedule, common examination periods, and at the same time according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training.

When is the 2025 National High School Graduation Exam in Vietnam expected to be held?

On August 1, 2024, the Ministry of Education and Training issued Decision No. 2045/QD-BGDDT in 2024 regarding the framework plan for the academic year 2024-2025 for preschool education, general education, and regular education with the following content:

Issuing the framework plan for the academic year 2024 - 2025 for preschool education, general education, and regular education nationwide as follows:

1. The earliest start date of the school year is 1 week before the official commencement. For grade 1, the earliest start date is 2 weeks before the official commencement. 2. The official commencement ceremony is on September 5, 2024.

3. The first semester will end before January 18, 2025, and the school year will end before May 31, 2025.

4. The recognition of primary school completion and junior high school graduation will be done before June 30, 2025.

5. The recruitment for the first grades of all levels will be completed before July 31, 2025. 6. The national high school graduation exam for 2025 is expected to be held on June 26 and June 27, 2025.

7. Other national exams will be organized according to the regulations and guidance of the Ministry of Education and Training.

Thus, according to the framework plan for the academic year 2024-2025, the Ministry of Education and Training expects the 2025 National High School Graduation Exam to be held on June 26 and June 27, 2025.

Are Informatics and Technology compulsory subjects for high school students in Vietnam?

In Section 4 of the general education program issued together with Circular No. 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, the rules are specified as follows:

1. Basic Education Stage

1.1. Primary Level

a) Educational Content

Compulsory subjects and educational activities: Vietnamese Language; Mathematics; Ethics; Foreign Language 1 (in grades 3, 4, 5); Natural and Social Science (in grades 1, 2, 3); History and Geography (in grades 4, 5); Science (in grades 4, 5); Informatics and Technology (in grades 3, 4, 5); Physical Education; Arts (Music, Fine Arts); Experiential Activities.

Optional subjects: Ethnic Minority Language, Foreign Language 1 (in grades 1, 2).

b) Educational Time

The teaching is organized into two sessions per day, with no more than 7 periods per day; each period is 35 minutes. Educational institutions lacking conditions for two sessions per day teach according to the guidance of the Ministry of Education and Training.

Optional subjects: Geography, Economic and Legal Education, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Technology, Informatics, Music, Fine Arts.

Students will choose 4 subjects from the optional subjects.

High school students must study the following compulsory subjects: Literature; Mathematics; Foreign Language 1; History; Physical Education; National Defense and Security Education.

The subjects Informatics and Technology are not compulsory for high school students. Instead, these two subjects are included in the list of optional subjects.

Therefore, it is advisable for students to choose to study Informatics and Technology to be familiar with these two subjects' curriculum if they opt to take Informatics and Technology exams in the 2025 National High School Graduation Exam.
