Who are eligible for direct admission to universities in Vietnam?
Based on Article 8 of the University Admission Regulations and College Admission for Early Childhood Education issued along with Circular 08/2022/TT-BGDDT, the subjects eligible for direct admission to universities include:
- Labor heroes, Heroes of the People's Armed Forces, national emulation fighters are eligible for direct admission to sectors and programs as regulated by the university;
- Individuals who achieve high achievements in national or international exams, competitions, or tournaments organized or assigned by the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET), the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, are eligible for direct admission in the year they graduate from high school (or middle school) into sectors suitable to the exam subjects, content of projects or professions they competed or won; specifically in the following cases:
+ Candidates who win first, second, or third prizes in national or international contests to select excellent students or national and international science and engineering fairs organized or assigned by MOET; the award timeframe should not exceed 3 years from the date of direct admission consideration;
+ Candidates who win official prizes in international art competitions in singing, dancing, music, fine arts recognized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism; the award timeframe should not exceed 4 years from the date of direct admission consideration;
+ Candidates from national teams competing in official international competitions confirmed by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism as having completed the task, including World Championships, World Cups, Olympic Games, Asian Games (ASIAD), Asian Championships, Asian Cups, Southeast Asian Championships, Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games), Southeast Asian Cups; the award timeframe should not exceed 4 years from the date of direct admission consideration;
+ Candidates winning first, second, or third prizes in ASEAN vocational contests and international vocational contests assigned by the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs; the award timeframe should not exceed 3 years from the date of direct admission consideration.

What are principles in university admissions in Vietnam?
Based on Article 4 of the University Admission Regulations and College Admission for Early Childhood Education issued along with Circular 08/2022/TT-BGDDT, university admissions must adhere to the following principles:
- Fairness towards candidates
+ Regarding information provision: Each interested candidate is provided with full, clear, reliable, consistent, and promptly information to make appropriate decisions and best prepare for admission participation;
+ Regarding opportunities to apply: No candidate should lose the opportunity to apply due to regulations unrelated to qualifications and abilities (except for specific regulations of the Ministry of Public Security and Ministry of Defense in national defense and security fields); or due to cumbersome and costly admission processes;
+ Regarding capability assessment: Candidates must be objectively, fairly, and reliably evaluated concerning their ability to study and potential for success, meeting the requirements of the program and training field;
+ Regarding admission opportunities: Candidates must be given the highest opportunity to be admitted and the right to prioritize their preferences among qualified programs and training fields;
+ Regarding commitment implementation: Educational institutions must fulfill their commitments to candidates; provide counseling, support and address complaints, protecting candidates' legitimate rights in risky situations.
- Equality among educational institutions
+ Regarding cooperation: Educational institutions cooperate equally to enhance quality and efficiency of admissions, providing the best benefits to the candidates;
+ Regarding competition: Educational institutions compete honestly, fairly, and healthily in admissions adhering to legal regulations on competition.
- Transparency towards society
+ Regarding information transparency: Educational institutions are responsible for publicly announcing full, clear, and promptly admission information via suitable media for societal and state management agencies’ supervision;
+ Regarding accountability: Educational institutions are responsible for reporting as required by state management agencies and accounting to society via appropriate forms about major issues causing public concern.
Who are eligible for university admission in Vietnam?
Based on Clause 1, Article 5 of the University Admission Regulations and College Admission for Early Childhood Education issued along with Circular 08/2022/TT-BGDDT, candidates eligible for university admission are determined at the time of admission consideration (before the official admission results are announced), including:
- Individuals who have been recognized as graduating from high school in Vietnam or possessing graduation diplomas from foreign countries recognized as equivalent in level;
- Individuals who have vocational intermediate diplomas in the same group of sectors applied for and have completed the required volume of high school cultural knowledge as prescribed by law.
