  1. Assessment by scores

a) Teachers use scores to evaluate students' practice and study outcomes.

b) Assessment by scores is used in regular assessments and periodic assessments through tests, and assessments of students' practice and study tasks in accordance with the characteristics of the subject.

3. Assessment methods for subjects

a) assessment by comments for subjects: Physical Education, Arts, Music, Fine Arts, Local Education Content, Experiential Activities, Career Guidance; learning outcomes in these subjects are evaluated by comments at 01 (one) of 02 (two) levels: Pass, Fail.

b) Assessment by comments combined with assessment by scores for subjects in the General Education Program, except for the subjects specified at point a of this clause; learning outcomes in these subjects are evaluated by scores on a 10-point scale. If another scale is used, it must be converted to a 10-point scale. The assessment score is an integer or a decimal taken to one decimal place after rounding.

Thus, the following subjects in upper secondary school are evaluated by comments:

- Physical Education;

- Local Education Content;

- Experiential Activities, Career Guidance.

The learning outcomes of these subjects are evaluated by comments at 01 (one) of 02 (two) levels: Pass, Fail.

What activities are used for regular assessments in upper secondary school in Vietnam?

Based on Article 6 of Circular 22/2021/TT-BGDDT on regular assessments:

Regular assessment

1. Regular assessment is conducted through: Q&A, writing, presentation, practice, experiment, study products.

  1. For a subject, each student is tested and evaluated multiple times, selecting a number of tests and assessments that are appropriate to the teaching schedule according to the educational plan of the professional group, recording the assessment results in the student tracking and assessment book (per class) to use in evaluating the subject learning outcomes as stipulated in Clause 1 Article 9 of this Circular, as follows:

a) For subjects evaluated by comments (excluding thematic study clusters): each semester selects 02 (two) times.

b) For subjects evaluated by comments combined with assessment by scores (excluding thematic study clusters), select the number of regular assessment scores (hereinafter abbreviated as DDGtx) in each semester as follows:

- Subjects with 35 periods/year: 02 DDGtx.

- Subjects with more than 35 periods/year up to 70 periods/year: 03 DDGtx.

- Subjects with more than 70 periods/year: 04 DDGtx.

  1. For thematic study clusters in upper secondary school subjects, each student is tested and evaluated according to each thematic study, selecting the result of 01 (one) test, assessment as the assessment result of the thematic study cluster. The assessment result of the thematic study cluster is counted as the result of 01 (one) regular assessment of that subject and recorded in the student tracking and assessment book (per class) to use in evaluating the subject learning outcomes as stipulated in Clause 1 Article 9 of this Circular.

Thus, regular assessments in upper secondary school are conducted through the following activities: Q&A, writing, presentation, practice, experiment, study products.

  1. Assessment aims at students' progress; values motivation and encouragement of students' efforts in practice and study; does not compare students with each other.

Thus, when evaluating in upper secondary school, the following requirements must be ensured:

- Assessment is based on the required achievements stipulated in the General Education Program.

- Assessment ensures accuracy, comprehensiveness, fairness, honesty, and objectivity.

- Assessment uses various methods, forms, techniques, and tools; combines regular assessments with periodic assessments.

- Assessment aims at students' progress; values motivation and encouragement of students' efforts in practice and study; does not compare students with each other.
