Vietnam: Which part of the eyeball helps to focus light to create an image? What is the core content of Biology?

Which part of the eyeball helps to focus light to create an image? What is the core content of Biology in Vietnam?

Which part of the eyeball helps to focus light to create an image?

The main part of the eyeball that helps to focus light to create an image is the lens.

The lens functions like a lens, capable of changing its curvature to adjust focus, ensuring the image of an object is accurately focused on the retina. The retina receives this image and transmits signals to the brain, allowing us to see clearly.

Which part of the eyeball helps to focus light to create an image?

While the lens plays a crucial role in focusing light to create an image, our vision process also relies on the harmonious coordination of several other parts of the eye.

The cornea, the outermost transparent layer of the eyeball, acts as the first lens that contacts light. The cornea has a fixed curvature and accounts for about two-thirds of the eye's refractive power. Thanks to the cornea, light enters the eye and begins to converge.

The iris is the colored part of the eye, located behind the cornea. In the center of the iris is the pupil – a round hole that can dilate and constrict to regulate the amount of light entering the eye. When the light is too strong, the pupil constricts to protect the retina. Conversely, in low light conditions, the pupil dilates to capture more light.

The lens, situated behind the iris, can change its curvature to adjust focus. When looking at a nearby object, the lens thickens, whereas, when viewing a distant object, the lens flattens. This mechanism ensures that the object's image is always sharply focused on the retina.

The retina is a thin, light-sensitive membrane at the back of the eyeball. When light is focused on the retina, photoreceptor cells here convert light signals into electrical impulses.

The optic nerve is a bundle of nerve fibers connecting the retina to the brain. The electrical impulses from the retina are transmitted via the optic nerve to the brain, where they are processed and formed into the images we see.

To envision the eye’s vision process, you can compare it to a camera:

Cornea and lens: Act as the camera lens, focusing light to a point.

Iris: Like an aperture, adjusting the amount of light entering.

Retina: Like the film in a camera, recording the image.

Optic nerve: Similar to a cable, transmitting images from the camera to the screen.

Brain: Like a screen, processing and displaying the image.

In this manner, each part of the eye holds an important role and works together harmoniously to create the vision process. Any change in any of these parts can affect vision.

What is the core content of Biology in Vietnam?

Under Section 5 of the General Education Program for Biology issued with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, the core content of the Biology program is regulated as follows:

The core educational content of Biology encompasses the levels of biological organization, including molecules, cells, organisms, populations, communities - ecosystems, and biosphere.

- Knowledge of each level of biological organization includes structure, function; the relationship between structure, function, and living environment.

- From the knowledge about levels of biological organization, the program summarizes common characteristics of the living world such as metabolism and energy transformation, growth and development, reproduction, response, genetics, variation, and evolution.

- Through thematic content, the curriculum presents achievements in biotechnology related to animal husbandry, crop production, environmental pollution treatment, agriculture, and clean food; in medicine and pharmaceuticals.

What are the 05 general orientations to Biology in Vietnam?

Under Section 6 of the General Education Program for Biology issued with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, the orientations to Biology are regulated as follows:

- Promote students' positivity, initiative, and creativity; avoid one-sided imposition and rote memorization; focus on fostering self-reliance and self-study abilities so that students can continue to explore, expand their knowledge base, and further develop necessary qualities and abilities after graduating from high school.

- Train skills in applying biological knowledge to identify and solve practical problems; encourage and create conditions for students to experience and create based on organizing student participation in learning activities, exploration, and application.

- Flexibly and creatively apply educational methods suitable to the objectives, content of education, student subjects, and specific conditions. Depending on the required outcomes, teachers may use a combination of various teaching methods in one topic.

- Traditional teaching methods (lectures, dialogues, etc.) are utilized in a way that promotes students' activeness and initiative. Increase the use of modern teaching methods that emphasize the learner's role as the main subject of learning (practical teaching, problem-solving-based teaching, project-based teaching, experience-based teaching, exploration; differentiated teaching, etc., along with appropriate teaching techniques).

- Teaching organizations employ a diverse and flexible range of methods; combining individual learning, group learning, in-class learning, contract learning, flipped learning, online learning, etc. Intensify the application of information and communication technology in teaching Biology. Value external reference materials in textbooks and the system of teaching equipment.

- Fully exploit the advantages of information and communication technology in teaching on knowledge repositories, and multimedia, and increase the use of electronic resources (such as experimental films, virtual experiments, simulated experiments, etc.).

- Integrate teaching through themes connecting various knowledge. In teaching these themes, teachers should construct situations requiring students to apply knowledge and skills to solve issues regarding awareness, practice, and technology.
