Based on Article 21 of Circular 22/2021/TT-BGDDT stipulating the effective date:

Effective Date

  1. This Circular takes effect from September 5, 2021, and is implemented according to the following schedule:

- From the 2021-2022 school year for Grade 6.

- From the 2022-2023 school year for Grade 7 and 10.

- From the 2023-2024 school year for Grade 8 and 11.

- From the 2024-2025 school year for Grade 9 and 12.

  1. This Circular replaces Circular No. 58/2011/TT-BGDDT dated December 12, 2011, of the Minister of Education and Training promulgating the Regulation on evaluating and grading upper secondary school school students and upper secondary school students, and Circular No. 26/2020/TT-BGDDT dated August 26, 2020, of the Minister of Education and Training amending and supplementing certain articles of the Regulation on evaluating and grading upper secondary school school students and upper secondary school students issued with Circular No. 58/2011/TT-BGDDT dated December 12, 2011, by the Minister of Education and Training, according to the schedule stipulated in Clause 1 of this Article.

Based on Article 2 of Circular 27/2020/TT-BGDDT regarding the assessment of primary school students, the implementation schedule is as follows:

Regulations on assessing primary school students according to the following schedule:

  1. From the 2020-2021 school year for Grade 1.
  1. From the 2021-2022 school year for Grade 2.
  1. From the 2022-2023 school year for Grade 3.
  1. From the 2023-2024 school year for Grade 4.
  1. From the 2024-2025 school year for Grade 5.

Thus, for the 2024-2025 school year, the changes in student assessment and evaluation are as follows:

- For upper secondary school and upper secondary school levels

Based on the regulations in Clause 1, Article 21 of Circular 22/2021/TT-BGDDT stipulating the evaluation and grading schedule:

+ From the 2021-2022 school year for Grade 6;

+ From the 2022-2023 school year for Grade 7 and 10.

+ From the 2023-2024 school year for Grade 8 and 11;

+ From the 2024-2025 school year for Grade 9 and 12.

Thus, from the 2024-2025 school year, the assessment of upper secondary school and upper secondary school students, including Grade 9 and 12, will be carried out according to Circular 22/2021/TT-BGDDT, similar to other grades in the upper secondary school and upper secondary school levels.

- For primary school Level

The assessment schedule for primary school students according to Article 2 of Circular 27/2020/TT-BGDDT:

+ From the 2020-2021 school year for Grade 1;

+ From the 2021-2022 school year for Grade 2;

+ From the 2022-2023 school year for Grade 3;

+ From the 2023-2024 school year for Grade 4;

+ From the 2024-2025 school year for Grade 5.

From the 2024-2025 school year, Grade 5 students will be assessed according to Circular 27/2020/TT-BGDDT, similar to other grades in the primary level.

What is the purpose of assessing primary school students in Vietnam?

Based on Article 3 of the Regulations on assessing primary school students issued with Circular 27/2020/TT-BGDDT, the purpose of assessing primary school students is to provide accurate and timely information, determining academic achievements and training according to the levels required by the primary education program, and the progress of students to guide learning activities and adjust teaching activities to enhance educational quality. To be specific:

- Helps teachers adjust and innovate the organization forms and educational methods during teaching; promptly detect students' efforts and progress to encourage and motivate them, and identify difficulties that students cannot overcome on their own to guide and assist them, thereby enhancing the quality and effectiveness of learning and training activities; contributes to achieving the objectives of primary education.

- Helps students to have the ability to self-assess, participate in assessments; learn independently, adjust learning methods; communicate, cooperate; feel motivated to learn and train for improvement.

- Helps parents or guardians (hereinafter collectively referred to as parents) participate in the evaluation of the learning and training process, the formation and development of students' qualities and competencies; actively collaborate with the school in student education activities.

- Helps educational management officers at all levels promptly direct educational activities, innovate teaching methods, and assessment methods to ensure educational effectiveness.

- Helps social organizations access accurate and objective information, promoting social resources to participate in educational development investment.

What is the primary school student assessment record in Vietnam?

Based on Article 10 of the Regulations on assessing primary school students issued with Circular 27/2020/TT-BGDDT, the primary school student assessment record includes:

- Evidence of the learning process, training, and learning outcomes of students;

- Information to enhance the coordination of student education between teachers, the school, and parents.
