How many subject teachers must participate in the selection of Grade 6 Natural Science textbooks by the Professional Committee?

According to Clause 2, Article 7 of Circular 27/2023/TT-BGDDT, it is stipulated as follows:

2. Organization of textbook selection by the Professional Committee

d) The head of the Professional Committee organizes meetings with the subject teachers to discuss and vote on the selection of one (1) textbook for the subject. In the event that only one textbook for the subject has been approved by the Minister of Education and Training of Vietnam, the Professional Committee will select the textbook based on the decision, without voting.

The selected textbook must be chosen by at least half (1/2) of the subject teachers. In the event that no textbook is chosen by at least half (1/2) of the subject teachers, the Professional Committee must discuss and vote again; the selected textbook is the one with the highest number of votes in the second round.

In both voting rounds, if two (2) textbooks receive an equal number of the highest votes from the subject teachers, the head of the Professional Committee will decide to choose one of the textbooks with the highest votes.

The meetings of the Professional Committee must be documented, with full records of remarks and evaluations by the participating subject teachers, and signed by the head of the committee and the person tasked with recording the minutes.

The head of the Professional Committee compiles the results into a list of selected textbooks with signatures from the head and the person tasked with creating the list.

Therefore, the Professional Committee choosing the Grade 6 Natural Science textbooks must ensure that at least half (1/2) of the subject teachers vote for the selection.

If no textbook reaches the one-half (1/2) threshold, the Professional Committee must discuss and vote again;

The selected Natural Science Grade 6 textbook is the one with the highest number of votes in the second round.

If, in both rounds, there are two Grade 6 Natural Science textbooks with equal highest votes, the head of the Professional Committee will decide which textbook to select from those with the highest votes.

What is the procedure for selecting Grade 6 Natural Science textbooks at lower secondary schools in Vietnam?

According to Article 7 of Circular 27/2023/TT-BGDDT, the procedure for selecting Grade 6 Natural Science textbooks at lower secondary schools is as follows:

- Step 1: The Council establishes a plan for organizing the selection of textbooks for the primary school; assigns tasks to the members of the Council.

- Step 2: Organize the selection of textbooks at the Professional Committee.

- Step 3: The Council meets to discuss, evaluate the selection of textbooks by the Professional Committees; reviews the minutes of the Professional Committee meetings; teachers' evaluation forms for textbooks according to Clause 2, Article 7 of Circular 27/2023/TT-BGDDT; consolidates the results into a document (including remarks, evaluations of the organization by the Professional Committees; the list of selected textbooks by the Professional Committees), with signatures from the Council's President and Secretary.

- Step 4: The Council proposes to the leader the list of textbooks selected by the Professional Committees according to the regulations of Circular 27/2023/TT-BGDDT.

- Step 5: The primary school compiles the records for selecting Grade 6 Natural Science textbooks and sends them to the Department of Education and Training of Vietnam (for primary and lower secondary levels), Department of Education and Training of Vietnam (for upper secondary level).
