What title shall primary school students in Vietnam achieve to receive certificates of achievement?

Based on the provisions of Article 13 of the Regulations on Assessment of Primary School Students issued with Circular 27/2020/TT-BGDDT:

Commendations

1. Principals shall award certificates of achievement for students:

a) End-of-year commendation:

- Award Excellent student title for student achieving Excellent completion;

- Award Student with good completion in study and training title for students achieving Good completion and earning excellent achievement in at least 1 subject or show clear development in at least 1 trait or capacity and receive recognition by the whole class.

b) Irregular commendation: students earning sudden achievements in school years.

2. Students with special achievements considered and requested for commendation by the schools.

3. Managing officials and teachers may send commendation letters to students with achievements and efforts during studying, training processes or students with good deeds.

Thus, students who achieve the two titles of Excellent Student and Student with good completion will be awarded certificates of achievement by the principal at the end of the school year.

Additionally, students with sudden achievements during the school year will also be awarded a certificate of achievement by the principal.

What are regulations on periodic assessment of primary school students in Vietnam at the end of a school year?

The regulations on periodic assessment of primary school students at the end of the year are stipulated in Article 7 of the Regulations on Assessment of Primary School Students issued with Circular 27/2020/TT-BGDDT as follows:

- Periodic assessment of the learning content of subjects and educational activities

+ At the end of the school year, subject teachers evaluate students based on the process of frequent assessment and the required achievements, specific expressions of the components of each subject and educational activity as follows:

++ Good Completion: Fully meets the learning requirements and frequently shows specific expressions of the subject's components or educational activity;

++ Completion: Meets the learning requirements and shows specific expressions of the subject's components or educational activity;

++ Incompletion: Does not meet some learning requirements or does not show specific expressions of the subject's components or educational activity.

+ At the end of the school year, for mandatory subjects: Vietnamese, Mathematics, Foreign Language 1, History and Geography, Science, Informatics, and Technology, periodic tests are conducted;

+ The periodic test content conforms to the required achievements and specific expressions of the subject's components, consisting of questions and exercises designed as follows:

++ Level 1: Recognizes, recalls, or describes learned content and directly applies it to solve some familiar situations and issues in learning;

++ Level 2: Connects and arranges some learned content to solve similar issues;

++ Level 3: Applies the learned content to solve some new problems or provides reasonable feedback in learning and life.

+ The test is corrected, remarked, scored on a scale of 10 by the teacher (without decimal points), and returned to the students. The periodic test score is not used to compare students with each other.

If the end-of-year test result is abnormal compared to frequent assessment, teachers can propose to the school for students to retake the test to accurately assess their learning results.

- Periodic assessment of the formation and development of qualities, competencies

At the end of the school year, the homeroom teacher cooperates with other subject teachers through remarks and specific expressions observed during the frequent assessment process about the formation and development of each student's key qualities and core competencies, evaluated as follows:

+ Good: Well meets educational requirements, shows clear and frequent expressions.

+ Achieved: Meets educational requirements, shows expressions but not frequently.

+ Needs Improvement: Does not fully meet educational requirements, shows unclear expressions.

Are primary school students in Vietnam assessed consistently according to Circular 27?

According to Article 2 of Circular 27/2020/TT-BGDDT, the assessment of primary school students is implemented as follows:

- From the 2020-2021 school year for grade 1.

- From the 2021-2022 school year for grade 2.

- From the 2022-2023 school year for grade 3.

- From the 2023-2024 school year for grade 4.

- From the 2024-2025 school year for grade 5.

Thus, starting from the 2024-2025 school year, the assessment of primary school students is consistently implemented according to Circular 27.
