In the General Education Program issued with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, the natural and social science subjects are clearly stated as follows:
2. Career-Oriented Education Stage
2.1. Educational Content
Compulsory subjects and educational activities: Literature; Mathematics; Foreign Language 1; Physical Education; National Defense and Security Education; Experiential Activities, Career Orientation; Local Education Content.
Optional subjects include 3 groups:
- Social Science subjects: History, Geography, Economic and Law Education.
- Natural Science subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Biology.
- Technology and Arts subjects: Technology, Information Technology, Arts (Music, Fine Arts).
Students choose 5 subjects from the 3 groups, selecting at least 1 subject from each group.
Study topics: Each subject in Literature, Mathematics, History, Geography, Economic and Law Education, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Technology, Information Technology, Arts has several study topics grouped into clusters for deep differentiation requirements, helping students enhance knowledge and practical skills, applying learned knowledge and skills to solve practical problems, meeting career orientation requirements. Each study topic lasts 10 or 15 periods; the total duration for a subject’s study topic cluster is 35 periods per school year. In each grade 10, 11, 12, students choose 3 study topic clusters from 3 different subjects according to personal aspirations and the school's organizational capabilities.
Schools can form combinations of subjects from the 3 groups and study topics mentioned above to meet learners' needs and ensure compatibility with the school's teaching staff, facilities, and teaching equipment conditions.
Optional subjects: Ethnic Minority Language, Foreign Language 2.

What are the social science subjects in the national high school examination in Vietnam?
Based on Article 3 of Circular 15/2020/TT-BGDDT (amended and supplemented by Clause 1 Article 1 of Circular 02/2024/TT-BGDDT), the 2024 high school graduation exam comprises 05 tests, including:
- 03 independent tests: Mathematics, Literature, Foreign Language (including English, Russian, French, Chinese, German, Japanese, and Korean);
- 01 combined Natural Science test comprising component subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Biology;
- 01 combined Social Science test comprising:
Component subjects History, Geography, Civic Education for students in the general education program at the high school level.
Component subjects History, Geography for students in the continuing education program at the high school level.
Thus, in the national high school examination, the social science subjects include: History, Geography, Civic Education.

What is the duration of each social science subject test in the national high school examination in Vietnam?
Based on Article 4 of the High School Graduation Exam Regulation issued with Circular 15/2020/TT-BGDDT:
Exam dates, schedule, content, format, and test durations/subject durations
1. Exam dates, schedule: Defined in the annual guidance for organizing the high school graduation exam by the Ministry of Education and Training.
2. Exam content: The content belongs to the high school program, primarily the grade 12 program.
3. Exam format: Mathematics, Foreign Language, Natural Science, and Social Science tests in the form of multiple-choice (collectively called multiple-choice tests); the Literature test in the form of essay (collectively called essay test).
4. Test durations/subject durations: Literature 120 minutes; Mathematics 90 minutes; Foreign Language 60 minutes; 50 minutes for each component subject of the combined Natural Science and Social Science tests.
The test duration for each component subject of the combined Social Science exam is therefore 50 minutes.
What items are allowed during the social science subjects exams in the national high school exam in Vietnam?
According to point b clause 4 Article 14 of the Regulation issued with Circular 15/2020/TT-BGDDT (amended by clause 6 Article 1 of Circular 02/2024/TT-BGDDT), candidates are allowed to bring the following items into the exam room when taking the social science subjects exams in the high school graduation exam:
(1) Pens; pencils; erasers;
(2) Rulers; triangles; graphing tools; drawing tools;
(3) Handheld calculators without text editing functions and without memory cards;
(4) Vietnam Geography Atlas compiled according to the 2006 general education program (without any markings or additional content).
