According to Article 5 of the Regulation on national excellent student exams issued together with Circular 17/2023/TT-BGDDT, there are stipulations on the subjects, exam content, format, and duration as follows:
Subjects, Exam Content, Format, and Duration
1. Subjects:
a) For the national excellent student contests, the subjects include: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Informatics, Literature, History, Geography, and Foreign Languages (English, Russian, French, Chinese). The exam will only be organized for subjects with at least five registered units. Any adjustment to the subjects (if any) will be considered and decided by the Minister of the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET);
b) For the Olympic team selection exam, the subjects include: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Informatics.
2. Exam Content: The content is within the general education program, specialized subject content at the high school level; for the Olympic team selection exam, the content will align with international and regional Olympic standards.
3. Exam Format, Duration:
a) national excellent student contests: There are two exam sessions for Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Informatics, and Foreign Languages; one session for Literature, History, and Geography. The exam duration is 180 minutes. The Informatics exam will be in the form of programming on a computer; other subjects will be written on paper; Foreign Languages also have an oral exam component, with candidates having 5 minutes to prepare and 5 minutes to record;
b) Olympic team selection exam: There are two exam sessions for each subject; with additional practical sessions for Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. The exam duration for Informatics is 300 minutes per exam, Mathematics 270 minutes per exam, and other subjects 240 minutes per exam. The practical exam duration for Physics, Chemistry, and Biology is 180 minutes.
Thus, the subjects for the national excellent student exam include:
Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Informatics, Literature, History, Geography, and Foreign Languages.
Foreign Languages include: English, Russian, French, Chinese.

Who organizes the national excellent student contests in Vietnam?
Based on Article 9 of the Regulation on national excellent student exams issued together with Circular 17/2023/TT-BGDDT, the regulations are as follows:
Direction and Organization of the Exam
1. The MOET directs and organizes the national excellent student contestss; reviews and decides on handling special cases, ensuring the purpose and requirement of organizing the exam.
2. Annually, the Minister of MOET issues a decision to establish the national excellent student contests Steering Committee (abbreviated as the Steering Committee).
a) The Head of the Committee is a Deputy Minister of MOET; Deputy Heads are leaders of relevant functional units under MOET, where the Standing Deputy Head is the leader of the Department of Quality Management (DQL); Members are leaders of some relevant units under MOET, and the Ministry of Public Security; Secretaries assisting the Steering Committee are officials and public employees of relevant units under MOET, and the Ministry of Public Security;
b) Duties and powers of the Steering Committee: Assist the Minister of MOET in directing the implementation of the exam organization plan; direct and inspect the implementation of exam-setting, exam supervision, grading, and re-evaluation; handle issues arising during the exam organization process, report to the Minister of MOET and competent authorities about the status of exam organization.
c) Duties and powers of the Steering Committee members: The Head of the Committee is responsible for the results of the Steering Committee's tasks and organizes the members to perform tasks and powers according to regulations in point b, clause 2 of this Article; Deputy Heads, Members, and Secretaries are responsible for the results of tasks and powers assigned or authorized by the Head of the Committee.

Is it necessary to submit students' academic records when participating in the national excellent student contests in Vietnam?
Based on Article 13 of the Regulation on national excellent student exams issued together with Circular 17/2023/TT-BGDDT, the regulations are as follows:
Student Records for national excellent student contests
1. Student records include:
a) Decision of the Head of the competing unit on the establishment of teams participating in the national excellent student contests (accompanied by the list of students in each team);
b) Academic records of the schooling level (if the exam is organized before the end of the first semester of the academic year) or the grading results (of conduct or behavior) and academic performance (or academic ability) of the semester closest to the exam time for each student, certified by the School Principal (if the exam is organized right after the end of the first semester of the academic year).
2. Issuance of Exam Cards:
a) The Head of the competing unit issues Exam Cards to students of their unit; issuance must be completed at least 10 days before the exam date;
b) Exam Cards must have a color photo of size 04cm x 06cm of the student, taken in the style of the citizenship card photo no more than 6 months before the exam, and stamped by the unit.
Thus, it is only necessary to submit the academic records of students if the exam is organized before the end of the first semester of the academic year.
If the exam is organized right after the end of the first semester, the grading results (of conduct or behavior) and academic performance (or academic ability) of the semester closest to the exam time for each student, certified by the School Principal, can be submitted.
