What is the Graphic Design?
Pursuant to Subsection 1, Section A, Part 7 of the Regulations on the minimum volume of knowledge and competency requirements that learners must meet after graduating from intermediate and college levels for industries and occupations in the field of computing and information technology (hereinafter referred to as the Regulation) issued together with Circular 44/2018/TT-BLDTBXH, the graphic design industry is regulated as follows:
Introduction to the discipline
Graphic design at the college level is a discipline that combines creative ideas and the sense of aesthetics, through graphic tools to create products, advertising publications, artworks combined with multimedia to serve advertising, communication needs in production, business, culture, and education, improving the spiritual life of people, meeting level 5 requirements in Vietnam's National Qualification Framework.
Graphic design is a form of applied art, creatively combining images, text, and ideas to effectively and engagingly convey information through printed and online publications.
Graphic design professionals can work in design firms, product advertisement consulting companies, brand identity departments, book and newspaper publishing design, or be responsible for design and advertisement at enterprises; or enterprises in the fields of animation, comics, communication and event organization, art studios, sound editing; they can also work at editorial offices, publishing houses, television stations, press agencies,... teaching at schools.
Minimum volume of knowledge: 2,190 hours (equivalent to 85 credits).
Thus, graphic design at the college level is a discipline that combines creative ideas and the sense of aesthetics, through graphic tools to create products and advertising publications, artworks combined with multimedia.
The products and advertising publications, artworks combined with multimedia serve advertising, communication needs in production, business, culture, and education, enhancing the spiritual life of people.

What positions can college graduates in graphic design work at in Vietnam?
According to Subsection 5, Section A, Part 7 of the Regulation issued together with Circular 44/2018/TT-BLDTBXH, graphic design college students can work in the following positions:
- Customer service;
- Product design, advertising, and publishing publications;
- Image, video, sound editing and processing;
- Multimedia communication product design;
- Design graphics for 2D animation games;
- Design graphics for 3D animation games.
What skills are required for college graduates in graphic design in Vietnam?
According to the regulations at Subsection 5, Section A, Part 7 of the Regulation issued together with Circular 44/2018/TT-BLDTBXH, graduates must have the following skills:
- Basic information technology skills according to regulations;
- Be able to connect and control computers, peripheral devices, and computer networks;
- Be able to analyze, organize, and properly implement the procedures for cleaning equipment and using safety equipment, skills to ensure occupational safety;
- Assemble, connect, and use computer systems and peripheral devices;
- Install programs that control digital peripheral devices, manipulate, operate, and maintain digital peripheral devices;
- Install and use graphic design software such as 2D design software, 3D design software, 3D software, film editing software, game software, image processing and graphics software, sound and video processing software,...;
- Communicate, identify and determine customer needs; be able to consult customers; implement products according to customer requirements;
- Be able to use the Internet, search for Vietnamese or English documents for work requirements;
- Design and complete graphic products such as ads on billboards, on websites or social media, on television, brand identity design, book covers, layout, book, newspaper, and magazine content presentation, propaganda painting;
- Edit and process images, videos, sound, camera shooting, photo shooting, process still images, moving images; design graphics for games, animations;
- Design website interfaces and use graphics knowledge to design marketing banners on the internet, advertise on social media;
- Integrate multimedia data; collect image, video, sound data;
- Create and use graphics, graphic layers; create specialized publications for internal use and for advertising purposes;
- Process images according to actual requirements, know how to coordinate synthesis operations to solve actual requirements;
- Create publications for various fields such as product labels, logo designs, business cards, or advertisements;
- Perform design-related services such as art, book and newspaper processing, create advertising paintings, digital video-related services, digital photography;
- Create drawings related to industrial art;
- Use basic foreign languages, achieve level 2/6 in the Vietnamese Foreign Language Proficiency Framework; apply foreign languages in the professional work of the industry, read and understand specialized English documents.
