Based on Subsection 2, Section 5 of the General Education Program for the Vietnamese Language subject issued together with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, the knowledge of Vietnamese Language for 6th-grade students includes:
- Simple and compound words, compound words and reduplicatives
- Polysemous words and homonyms
- Meanings of some common idioms
- Meanings of some common Sino-Vietnamese elements (e.g., "bất," "phi") and meanings of words with those Sino-Vietnamese elements (e.g., "bất công," "bất đồng," "phi nghĩa," "phi lí")
- Main components of sentences: extending the main components of sentences with phrases
- Adverbials: characteristics, linking functions in sentences
- Usage of semicolons (marking boundaries between components in a complex list); quotation marks (indicating the non-literal understanding of a word)
- Rhetorical devices like metaphors and metonymy: characteristics and effects
- Paragraphs and texts: characteristics and functions
- Choosing words and some sentence structures suitable for expressing the meaning of the text
- Text types and genres
+ Narrative texts: an essay recounting a personal experience, an essay narrating a folk tale
+ Descriptive texts: an essay describing a living scene
+ Expressive texts: lục bát poems; a paragraph expressing feelings when reading a lục bát poem
+ Argumentative texts: opinions, reasons, evidence; an essay presenting opinions on a phenomenon in study or life
+ Informative texts: title, subtitle, section headings, bold letters, numbering, and bulleted lists; explanatory texts recounting an event; minutes recording an incident or a meeting, discussion
- Language development: phenomenon of loanwords, borrowed words, use of borrowed words
- Non-verbal communication means: images, data

Who has the authority to select the Vietnamese Language textbooks for 6th-grade students in Vietnam?
Article 1, Clause 32 of the Education Law 2019 stipulates the regulations on General Education textbooks as follows:
General Education Textbooks
1. General Education textbooks are regulated as follows:
a) Textbooks implement the General Education Program, specifying the goals, educational content, and requirements for students' qualities and competencies; provide guidance on teaching methods and quality assessment methods; the content and form of textbooks are free from ethnic, religious, occupational, gender, age, and social class prejudices; textbooks are presented in formats such as print books, Braille books, electronic books;
b) Each subject has one or several textbooks; private investment is encouraged in textbook compilation; textbook publishing complies with the law;
c) The Provincial People's Committee decides on the selection of textbooks for stable use in general education institutions in the locality as per the regulations of the Minister of Education and Training;
d) Local educational materials are compiled by the Provincial People's Committee to meet needs and suit local characteristics, evaluated by the provincial appraisal council, and approved by the Minister of Education and Training.

Therefore, the textbooks used in different localities may vary, but they will still ensure the subject’s content in accordance with the General Education Program for the Vietnamese Language subject issued together with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT.
What are conditions for the content of 6th-grade Vietnamese Language textbooks in Vietnam?
Based on Article 5 of the Regulations on standards, processes of compiling, revising textbooks; standards for organizations and individuals compiling textbooks; organization and activities of the National Textbook Appraisal Council issued together with Circular 33/2017/TT-BGDDT, the contents of 6th-grade Vietnamese Language textbooks must meet the following conditions:
- The content of textbooks must accurately and fully reflect the curriculum content of the subject or educational activity; ensuring fundamental, scientific, practical content suitable to Vietnam’s reality.
- Terminology, concepts, definitions, data, events, images must be accurate, objective, consistent, and appropriate for students' level; data, events, and images must be of clear origin.
- New scientific achievements related to the subject’s curriculum and educational activities should be updated to meet international integration requirements and align with the subject’s curriculum goals and educational activities.
- Content concerning national sovereignty, human rights, child rights, gender equality, sustainable development, environmental protection, and climate change adaptation must be reasonably presented.
