What is an Associate Degree in Information Technology?
Pursuant to sub-item 1, Section A, Part 2 of the Regulations on minimum knowledge volume and competency requirements that learners must achieve after graduating from intermediate and associate degree levels for disciplines and professions in the field of computing and information technology (hereinafter referred to as the Regulations) issued together with Circular 44/2018/TT-BLDTBXH, the associate degree level in information technology is a field and profession that undertakes:
- Computer maintenance (Planning, implementing repair, warranty, maintenance of computers, data protection, handling computer incidents, etc.);
- Exploiting information technology services (Managing, operating service systems in the field of information technology), Managing software systems (Managing, operating, exploiting software databases, diagnosing errors and optimizing the system, etc.);
- Database administration (receiving, processing, and extracting data, exporting data, etc.);
- Customer service (Handling information about applications, information technology products, providing hardware, software, and peripheral device support when needed);
- Application programming (software applications, website design, games); Network administration (ensuring security, integrity, and availability).
The associate degree level in information technology meets the requirements of level 5 in the Vietnam National Qualifications Framework.
Information technology professionals can work at agencies and enterprises using computers and applying information technology.
Enterprises developing applications (as system developers, transferors, user supporters) or other enterprises or organizations using computers, network systems, telecommunications equipment, security equipment (as operators, maintainers, and repairers).
The minimum knowledge volume for an associate degree in information technology is 2295 hours (equivalent to 90 credits).

What are knowledge requirements of graduates with an associate degree in information technology in Vietnam?
Pursuant to sub-item 2, Section A, Part 2 of the Regulations issued together with Circular 44/2018/TT-BLDTBXH, graduates with an associate degree in information technology should meet the following knowledge requirements:
- Capable of presenting basic knowledge about computer networks and the Internet, and network management;
- Capable of presenting information technology services such as maintenance, and repair of usual computer and network breakdowns;
- Accurately presenting fundamental knowledge about information technology;
- Identifying work handover procedures and job log recording;
- Identifying occupational safety standards;
- Analyzing information systems and databases;
- Planning data backup, data recovery, and computer network systems;
- Identifying data processing procedures;
- Assessing factors ensuring data safety;
- Assessing the scale and status of the computer network;
- Correctly presenting the principles of computer network operations and network management;
- Presenting knowledge about programming, developing information technology applications, website design, and game design;
- Presenting knowledge about software technology, and information technology project management;
- Presenting basic knowledge about politics, culture, society, law, national defense, security, and physical education as required.
What are skill requirements of graduates with an associate degree in information technology in Vietnam?
According to sub-item 3, Section A, Part 2 of the Regulations issued together with Circular 44/2018/TT-BLDTBXH, graduates with an associate degree in information technology should meet the following skill requirements:
- Basic use of information technology as prescribed;
- Connecting and controlling computers and peripheral devices, computer networks;
- Analyzing, organizing, and properly performing equipment cleaning procedures, and using safety equipment skills, and occupational safety skills;
- Assembling, connecting, and using computer systems and peripheral devices, security devices;
- Supporting and understanding customer needs, advising customers, and forming products as per customer requirements;
- Searching for documents on the Internet in Vietnamese or English to serve job requirements;
- Guiding junior workers;
- Logging records and reporting work progress;
- Implementing industrial hygiene measures, fire, explosion, electrical accidents, and occupational safety;
- Building presentation, discussion, and situation-handling skills;
- Developing applications and products as per customer requirements;
- Designing and building databases according to the job requirements;
- Backing up and recovering data to ensure system availability;
- Designing and building basic network systems;
- Developing information systems that meet customer expectations;
- Deploying, installing, and operating (managing) information systems for enterprises;
- Managing groups, supervising medium and small information technology systems.
- Basic use of a foreign language, achieving level 2/6 in Vietnam’s foreign language competency framework; applying foreign language to professional work in the field.
