Computer Network Administration at the college level is a profession that involves the following tasks:
- Installing, supporting, managing the network and computer systems to ensure continuous information flow;
- Designing, constructing, and deploying network systems, maintaining network hardware and software, troubleshooting network issues, ensuring network security, availability, and performance standards, meeting the requirements of level 5 in the National Qualifications Framework of Vietnam.
Individuals working in the Computer Network Administration field are employed at specialized agencies, administrative units, and network-related service organizations.
Individuals working in the Computer Network Administration field possess broad theoretical knowledge, necessary practical knowledge, specialized practical skills, and creativity in their work and self-learning.
Practitioners in this field must have good health, industry dedication, and the ability to organize and manage work.
Minimum knowledge volume for the college-level Computer Network Administration field: 2,500 hours (equivalent to 90 credits).

- Analyzing and designing network systems;
- Installing and configuring network systems;
- Deploying network services and managing network users;
- Administrating software systems;
- Maintaining and repairing network systems;
- Computer network administration;
- Network system monitoring.
What minimum knowledge and skills must students of the computer network administration field have upon graduation in Vietnam?
According to the stipulations of sub-sections 2 and 3, Section A, Part 4 of the Regulations issued together with Circular 44/2018/TT-BLDTBXH, after graduating from the college-level Computer Network Administration program, students must meet the following minimum knowledge and skills requirements:
(1). Knowledge
- Present basic knowledge about computers;
- Present foundational knowledge about computer networks;
- Analyze the network system usage needs of clients;
- Analyze network system upgrade and optimization needs;
- Establish network models and policies;
- Present principles, methods for planning, designing, constructing, installing, configuring, operating, managing, maintaining, repairing, and upgrading computer network systems;
- Identify the functions and operations of network devices within the system;
- Present the process of checking network devices and network communication;
- Precisely present the structure and roles of network services, computer network knowledge, network administration;
- Identify data exploitation, updating requirements, and report creation in software;
- Describe the steps for reporting network performance;
- Present basic knowledge about network application development;
- Identify necessary network models and systems for IT service exploitation;
- Describe how to design and install wireless networks;
- List security, data safety issues, and propose solutions for incidents; Categorize viruses and antivirus software;
- Analyze and assess the security level of network systems and protection measures for these systems;
- Identify the process for shift handover, work log keeping;
- Identify labor safety standards;
- Present basic knowledge about politics, culture, society, law, national defense, and physical education as per regulations.
(2). Skills
- Utilize basic information technology as per regulations;
- Exploit applications on network systems;
- Design, construct, and deploy network systems for small and medium-sized businesses;
- Install, configure, and manage network systems using server operating systems;
- Install, configure, and manage services such as DNS, DHCP, RRAS, Web, Mail;
- Accurately configure common network devices like Switches, Routers, etc.;
- Evaluate security systems and encrypt data;
- Construct and deploy firewall systems to protect networks;
- Maintain, repair, and upgrade network hardware and software;
- Develop simple applications on network systems;
- Evaluate and select wireless network system devices;
- Maintain and troubleshoot wireless network errors;
- Mentor and guide lower-level technicians;
- Maintain work logs and report work progress;
- Implement industrial hygiene and labor safety measures;
- Communicate effectively through writing, presentations, discussions, negotiations, and scenario management;
- Manage teams and oversee small and medium-sized IT systems;
- Plan, assign tasks, and supervise group work;
- Manage incidents and emergency situations;
- Use basic foreign language skills, achieving level 2/6 in the Vietnamese Foreign Language Proficiency Framework; apply foreign languages in professional work within the field.
