What is the valency of Iron (Fe)? What are the 8 characteristics of grade 10 Chemistry in Vietnam?

What is the valency of Iron (Fe)? What are the characteristics of the grade 10 Chemistry in Vietnam?

What is the valency of Iron (Fe)?

Iron (Fe) is a chemical element that students will learn about and need to understand thoroughly:

What is the valency of Iron (Fe)?

Iron (Fe) has two main valencies:

Valency II: When iron loses 2 electrons from its outer shell.

Valency III: When iron loses 3 electrons from its outer shell.

*Example:

Iron (II) oxide: FeO (Fe has valency II)

Iron (III) oxide: Fe₂O₃ (Fe has valency III)

Factors deciding the valency of iron:

The valency of iron depends on the specific chemical reaction and the conditions of that reaction.

* Fe has valency II:

When Fe reacts with diluted acids such as HCl, diluted H₂SO₄.

When Fe reacts with non-metals of medium or weak activity such as sulfur (S).

When Fe reacts with salt solutions of weaker metals.

When Fe has valency III:

When Fe reacts with strong oxidizing acids such as concentrated hot HNO₃, concentrated hot H₂SO₄.

When Fe reacts with strong active non-metals like chlorine (Cl₂).

*Summary:

Iron is a metallic element capable of exhibiting two different valencies. Determining the valency of iron in a specific compound depends on factors such as the type of reactant, reaction conditions, and the nature of the chemical bond.

Tips for memorizing the periodic table for grades 8, 9, and 10 students

- Divide the table into rows, columns, groups, or blocks for easier learning. Learn a few elements each day, and once mastered, move on to the next set.

- Identify similar components of elements after knowing their names, atomic numbers, and chemical symbols.

- Print or create a copy of the periodic table.

- Regularly review sections of the table when free to retain knowledge longer.

*Learning by group division:

- Group IA: H;Li;Na;K;Rb;Cs;Fr

- Group IIA: Be;Mg;Ca;Sr;Ba;Ra

- Group IIIA: B;Al;Ga;In;Tl

- Group IV: C;Si;Ge;Sn;Pb

- Group V: N;P;As;Sb;Bi

- Group VI: O;S;Se;Te;Po

What are the 8 characteristics of grade 10 Chemistry in Vietnam?

Based on Section 1 of the High School Chemistry Education Program, issued together with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT:

- Chemistry is a branch of science under natural sciences, studying the components, structure, properties, and changes of substances and compounds.

- Chemistry closely combines theory and experiment, serving as a bridge with other natural sciences like physics, biology, medicine, and geology. Progress in chemistry is linked to advancements in new discoveries in biology, medicine, and physics.

- Chemistry plays an important role in life, production, contributing to the socio-economic development. Achievements in chemistry are applied in areas such as materials, energy, medicine, biotechnology, agriculture - forestry - fishery, and many other fields.

- In the high school education program, Chemistry is a subject belonging to the group of natural science subjects at the high school level, chosen by students based on career orientation, interests, and abilities. Chemistry subjects provide essential knowledge of chemistry and its application in life, while being related to many other educational fields.

- Along with Mathematics, Physics, Biology, Informatics, and Technology, Chemistry contributes to promoting STEM education, a valued educational trend in many countries worldwide.

- The content of Chemistry is designed into topics ensuring to consolidate content streams, develop existing knowledge and practical skills from lower levels, and help students have a deeper understanding of basic chemical knowledge, serving as a foundation for study and research.

- In each academic year, students with career orientation need to use a wide range of chemical knowledge can choose three study topics suitable to their aspirations and the organizational conditions of the school.

- These topics are designed for deep differentiation, helping students strengthen their knowledge and practical skills, applying knowledge and skills learned to solve real-world problems, meeting career orientation requirements.

What are regulations on viewpoints for constructing curriculum for grade 10 Chemistry in Vietnam?

Based on Section 2 of the High School Chemistry Education Program, issued together with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT:

The Chemistry program fully complies with the regulations outlined in the Overall Program, and at the same time, emphasizes the following viewpoints based on the characteristics of the subject:

[1] Ensuring Inheritance and Development

- The Chemistry program inherits and promotes the advantages of the current program, absorbs the experience of constructing subject curricula from countries with advanced education systems worldwide and in the region; at the same time, approaches educational science and chemistry science achievements suitable to the cognitive level, physiological age of students, and considers the economic and social conditions of Vietnam.

- The Chemistry program inherits and develops the educational content of the Natural Science subject at the lower secondary level through a concentric structure combined with a linear structure to expand and enhance knowledge and skills for students.

At the lower secondary level, through the Natural Science subject, students become acquainted with basic chemical knowledge at a qualitative, visual descriptive level.

At the high school level, Chemistry focuses on equipping students with foundational chemistry knowledge about the composition, properties, and applications of substances and compounds so that they can explain the essence of chemical transformation processes at the required level.

[2] Ensuring Practicality

The Chemistry program prioritizes practicality; avoids a tendency towards excessive computation; emphasizes equipping students with conceptual tools and methods of using these tools, particularly by helping students gain practical laboratory skills, and skills in applying chemical knowledge to comprehend and address certain practical problems, thereby meeting life’s requirements.

[3] Implementing Career-Oriented Requirements

The Chemistry program concretely defines the objectives of career-oriented education. Based on identifying sectors and technologies requiring deep chemical knowledge, the program selects core educational content and study topics, enabling students to delve deeper into chemical knowledge with numerous practical applications, preparing them for career orientation.

[4] Promoting Student Positivity

The educational methods of Chemistry contribute to promoting positivity, proactivity, and creativity among students, with the aim of forming chemical competencies and contributing to the formation and development of essential qualities and general competencies as prescribed in the Overall Program.
