What is the unit of pressure? What are the fields for the national-level Science and Engineering Research Competition for lower and upper secondary students in Vietnam?
What is the unit of pressure?
The unit of pressure is Pascal (Pa).
Pascal (Pa): 1 Pascal is defined as the pressure exerted on an area of 1 square meter when a perpendicular force of 1 Newton is applied.
Pressure calculation formula: p = F/S (where: p is pressure, F is force, S is the area under force).
Pascal (Pa): This is the standard unit of pressure in the international measurement system SI. 1 Pascal is defined as the pressure exerted on an area of 1 square meter when a perpendicular force of 1 Newton is applied.
Apart from Pascal, there are other units commonly used to measure pressure:
Bar: 1 bar is equal to 100,000 Pascals. This unit is often used in meteorology and engineering.
Atmosphere (atm): 1 atm is approximately equal to atmospheric pressure at sea level.
mmHg (millimeters of mercury): This is an old unit, usually used in medicine to measure blood pressure.
Why Pascal, not Newton?
Newton (N): This is the unit of force in the SI system. Force is a quantity that represents the effect causing a change in the state of motion or deformation of an object.
Pascal (Pa): This is the unit of pressure in the SI system. Pressure is a physical quantity characterized by the distribution of force applied perpendicularly over an area.
What is the difference between force and pressure?
Force: Force can act on a point or an area. It is simply the measure of the magnitude of an effect.
Pressure: Pressure is the force applied per unit area. It indicates the concentration of force on a specific area.
The unit of pressure Pascal has been incorporated into the computer science curriculum in some schools, particularly at the secondary level. Students were taught to write basic programs using this language to become familiar with programming.
