* Below is the retention period of academic results for college students under the annual system.

The annual training method is stipulated in Clause 1 Article 3 of the Undergraduate Education Regulation issued with Circular 08/2021/TT-BGDDT.

Based on Clause 3 Article 9 of Circular 04/2022/TT-BLDTBXH:

Suspending the program and retaining academic results

3. The period for retaining academic results is not to exceed 5 years from the time of suspending the study program and does not count towards the maximum time for completing the course. Students who wish to retain their academic results must submit a request for the principal’s consideration and decision.

Thus, college students under the annual training system can retain their academic results for no longer than 5 years from the time of suspending their study program.

What is the time limit for academic result retention period for college students in Vietnam?​

In which cases may college-level students in the annual system in Vietnam suspend the program and retain their academic results?

According to Clause 2 Article 9 of Circular 04/2022/TT-BLDTBXH, college-level students in the annual system can suspend the current study program and retain their academic results if they fall into any of the following cases:

- Deployed by state authorities to perform military service, participate in disaster prevention and control, epidemic prevention; participate in international exams or competitions;

- Due to health reasons, they must stop studying for a long period for treatment, with certification from the health facility where they were examined and treated, or with a disability certification according to the provisions of the Law on Persons with Disabilities 2010;

- Transferring from one school to another with the same training field but different progress schedules;- Participating in programs, and projects to work abroad under a contract or due to family conditions requiring suspending studies;

- During the period of disciplinary suspension from studies;

- Under criminal investigation but no conclusion has been reached by the competent authority, or a conclusion exists but does not fall under the category of disciplinary action leading to expulsion.

In which cases may college-level students in the annual system in Vietnam transfer schools?

Based on Article 11 of Circular 04/2022/TT-BLDTBXH, the regulation on school transfers is as follows:

School Transfers

  1. Students transferring schools based on the decision of competent state management agencies, the transfer will be implemented according to the agency’s decision. The decision must be accompanied by written consent from the student.

  2. Students transferring schools based on personal demand will perform the transfer according to the regulations of the sending school and the receiving school. The principal will only consider accepting or allowing the student to transfer if the following conditions are met:

a) A transfer request form is submitted;

b) Not during the adjustment period of study progress, not under disciplinary action from warning level upwards, not under criminal investigation;

c) Not transferring during the final semester of the course;

d) The transfer to the receiving school must continue in the same field of study as at the sending school.

  1. The principal of the receiving school decides on accepting or not accepting the transferred student.

  2. The maximum time for the student to complete the program is calculated from the time of admission at the sending school.

Thus, college-level students in the annual system can transfer schools in the following cases:

- Transfer as per the decision of competent state management agencies;

- Transfer based on personal demand.

Is it possible for college-level students in the annual system in Vietnam to study two programs simultaneously?

Based on Article 8 of Circular 04/2022/TT-BLDTBXH:

Simultaneous Study of Two Programs

  1. Conditions for studying two programs simultaneously

a) The student must submit a request to study two programs simultaneously;

b) Have completed the first semester for programs lasting from one to two academic years, or the second semester for programs lasting over two academic years. The academic result of each completed semester in the first program must be at least quite good;

c) Not during the period of suspending the current study program, not under disciplinary action from the warning level upwards, not under criminal investigation.

  1. Students who need to adjust their study progress or are expelled from the first program will also be expelled from the second program.

  2. The duration for students to complete the two programs is stipulated in Clause 3 Article 3 of this Circular.

Thus, college-level students in the annual system can study two programs simultaneously if they meet the following three conditions:

[1] Submit a request to study two programs simultaneously.

[2] Have completed the first semester for programs lasting from one to two academic years, or the second semester for programs lasting over two academic years. The academic result for each completed semester in the first program must be at least quite good.

[3] Not under disciplinary action from the warning level upwards, not under criminal investigation, and not during the period of suspending the current study program.
