What is the theme for the 2024 Lifelong Learning Week in Vietnam?

Based on Official Dispatch 5201/BGDDT-GDTX in 2024 on organizing the 2024 Lifelong Learning Week:

The Official Dispatch is issued by the Ministry of Education and Training on September 9, 2024, which clearly states as follows: In order to implement Decision 1373/QD-TTg in 2021 by the Prime Minister of Vietnam approving the Scheme "Building a Learning Society 2021-2030" and Official Dispatch 3933/BGDDT-GDTX in 2024, the Ministry of Education and Training recommends that the People’s Committees of provinces and centrally run cities (hereinafter referred to as the provinces) direct the Departments of Education and Training, the Provincial Learning Promotion Associations, the district-level People’s Committees, and relevant units to organize the 2024 Lifelong Learning Week (hereinafter referred to as the Week). The theme of the 2024 Lifelong Learning Week is:

"Developing Reading Culture to Promote Lifelong Learning"

Goal [1] Raise awareness, increase responsibility, attention, and active participation of all levels of government, sectors, organizations, unions, and social forces in developing reading culture to promote lifelong learning - one of the strategic national issues in improving people's knowledge, developing human resources, fostering talents, which is the decisive factor for sustainable development and success.

Goal [2] Promote the role of the educational and training system in guiding and organizing reading promotion activities for officials, teachers, students, learners, and the general public, contributing to promoting a wide learning movement across all levels of the population; diversify learning forms (classroom learning, formal schooling, out-of-school learning, online learning, distance learning, learning from colleagues,...);

Reading books is a common and effective learning activity that helps expand knowledge, develop thinking, and improve and develop soft skills, communication skills. Create a favorable and friendly reading environment, develop reading culture among the people, thereby encouraging people to actively learn regularly, continuously, and lifelong, aiming to build a learning society.

Additionally, the 2024 Lifelong Learning Week is also required to be organized in appropriate forms, with practical and effective content.

Will there be a Book Fair during the 2024 Lifelong Learning Week in Vietnam?

According to Official Dispatch 5201/BGDDT-GDTX in 2024, the activities during the 2024 Lifelong Learning Week include:

Activities during the Week are based on the theme of 2024 and specific conditions in localities. The People's Committees of provinces are directed to implement the Week 2024 with appropriate, flexible, and creative forms, mobilizing maximum resources to organize activities to develop reading culture and promote lifelong learning.

The Ministry of Education and Training suggests the following activities:

- Strengthening and renewing information and communication activities on mass media, the websites of related units and organizations, social networking sites about the importance and role of developing reading culture to promote lifelong learning.

Displaying banners and slogans at educational institutions, factories, offices, agencies, and public places; organizing various forms of propaganda on the theme and activities of the Week for the public to know and participate.

- Organizing the Opening Ceremony of the Week with the participation of representatives of party committees, government, related agencies, social organizations, businesses; representatives of educational institutions, cultural institutions, mass media; representatives of all levels of the population, students, trainees, and students in the locality.

- Implementing the activities of the Week in appropriate and effective forms; especially focusing on remote and disadvantaged areas, aiming for broad social participation, bringing the theme of the Week into life practically.

+ Organizing Book Fairs to introduce new books, creating spaces for interactions between authors and readers; establishing reading clubs according to themes and age groups, helping people read together and share their feelings; organizing writing, drawing, storytelling contests based on books and newspapers to stimulate creativity and a love of reading; organizing seminars to share experiences on innovating school libraries and developing reading culture in educational institutions and communities; organizing events, interactions, contests, and meetings,...

Encouraging students, learners, students, teachers, managers, and the public to read books; launching calls for students, learners, students, and the public to donate books to build classroom libraries for schools in remote areas.

+ Enhancing school library activities, promoting the application of information technology, optimizing technological platforms, and digital transformation to improve the quality of library activities; introducing and widely spreading exemplary models of school library management and activities;

+ Mobilizing organizations and individuals to invest in equipment, bookshelves, and books for educational and training institutions, especially schools and educational points in difficult areas; mobilizing parents to actively participate in building classroom libraries and parent libraries;

+ Innovating teaching methods, innovating assessment, and evaluation in the direction of leveraging learning resources, reference materials, and information outside of textbooks/curriculum to improve education quality, encouraging students to read both printed and digital materials, fostering self-study ability and lifelong learning.

+ Organizing education classes on skills, reading methods, information collection, and processing methods for students and learners in educational institutions; for general education schools, this content needs to be tied to reading/library learning periods; opening classes that guide reading skills and methods, sharing reading experiences with the public at community learning centers.

+ Diversifying library services; promoting mobile library services in localities, especially in rural areas and economically difficult areas; enhancing the circulation of books, newspapers, and materials between libraries, concentrating on circulation from the public library system to rural, mountainous, and economically difficult areas, to schools, border posts, prisons, and private libraries serving the community;

Continuing to innovate the organization and activities of school libraries to create favorable environments for students to regularly access books in various forms such as “green library”, “friendly library”, “classroom bookshelf”, “mobile library”, “flexible library”, “electronic library”,...

Thus, Book Fairs is one of the activities that will take place during the 2024 Lifelong Learning Week.
