Based on Article 12 of the Regulation on evaluation and grading of secondary and upper secondary school students issued with Circular 22/2021/TT-BGDDT:
Promotion, summer re-evaluation, non-promotion
1. Students who meet the following conditions will be promoted or recognized as completing the lower secondary or upper secondary program:
a) The conduct evaluation for the entire school year (including re-evaluation after summer re-training as per Article 13 of this Circular) meets the minimum of "Pass."
b) The academic performance for the entire school year (including the re-evaluation of subjects as stipulated in Article 14 of this Circular) meets the minimum of "Pass."
c) The student does not miss more than 45 school days in one academic year (based on the one-session/day educational plan stipulated in the General Educational Program, including both approved and unapproved leave, continuous or non-continuous absences).
2. Students who need to undergo re-training during the summer must comply with the provisions of Article 13 of this Circular; students who need to be re-evaluated in subjects must follow the provisions of Article 14 of this Circular.
3. Students who do not meet the requirements specified in clause 1 of this Article will not be promoted or recognized as completing the lower secondary or upper secondary program.
4. For students with disabilities: Based on the evaluation results of disabled students as prescribed in Article 11 of this Circular, the principal decides whether to promote or recognize the completion of the lower secondary or upper secondary program for disabled students.
Thus, students are allowed a maximum of 45 days off per academic year with permission. If they exceed this limit, they will not be promoted to next grade.
