Currently, there are no specific regulations on holiday schedules for students. Therefore, students will study and have holidays according to the schedule of their schools and teachers.
Pursuant to Article 112 of the Labor Code 2019, the regulations on public holidays are as follows:
Public holidays
1. Employees are entitled to leave with full pay on public holidays as follows:
a) New Year's Day: 01 day (January 1);
b) Lunar New Year: 05 days;
c) Victory Day: 01 day (April 30);
d) International Labor Day: 01 day (May 1);
dd) National Day: 02 days (September 2 and 01 adjacent day);
e) Hung Kings Commemoration Day: 01 day (March 10, lunar calendar).
2. Foreign workers in Vietnam are entitled to one additional day off for their national traditional Tet and one day for their national day, in addition to the holidays specified in Clause 1 of this Article.
3. Each year, based on actual conditions, the Prime Minister decides the specific holiday schedule prescribed at points b and dd of Clause 1 of this Article.
Article 1 of Decision 2045/QD-BGDDT in 2024 stipulates as follows:
Issuance of the time frame for the 2024 - 2025 academic year for preschool, general education, and continuing education nationwide:
1. Return to school no earlier than 1 week before the start of the new school year. For grade 1, return to school no earlier than 2 weeks before the new school year starts.
2. The new school year officially starts on September 5, 2024.
3. First semester ends before January 18, 2025, and the entire academic year ends before May 31, 2025.
4. Primary education completion recognition and middle school graduation before June 30, 2025.
5. Complete admissions for new grades before July 31, 2025.
6. National high school examination for the 2025 academic year tentatively held on June 26 and 27, 2025.
7. Other national exams are organized per the regulations and guidance of the Ministry of Education and Training.
Hence, the public holidays when primary school students may have a break for the 2024-2025 academic year according to the law may include:
(1) New Year's Day
(2) Lunar New Year
(3) Victory Day (April 30)
(4) International Labor Day (May 1)
(5) National Day (September 2)
(6) Hung Kings Commemoration Day (March 10, lunar calendar)
*Note: The Chairperson of the People's Committee of each province or central-affiliated city will determine the specific academic year schedule for each locality.
