How long is the 2/9 holiday?

According to Notice 5015/TB-LDTBXH of 2023 from the Ministry of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs (LDTBXH) to administrative agencies, public service units, political organizations, socio-political organizations, businesses, and other employers, the Lunar New Year and National Day holidays in 2024 are as follows:

1. Officials and public employees and workers of administrative agencies, public service units, political organizations, and socio-political organizations (hereinafter referred to as officials and public employees) will be on Lunar New Year holiday in 2024 from Thursday, February 8, 2024 (the 29th day of the 12th lunar month of the Year of the Cat) until the end of Wednesday, February 14, 2024 (the 5th day of the 1st lunar month of the Year of the Dragon). This break includes 5 days of the Lunar New Year holiday and 2 compensatory days for regular weekly rest days as stipulated in Clause 3, Article 111 of the Labour Code.

2. Civil servants and public employees are on National Day holiday in 2024 from Saturday, August 31, 2024, until the end of Tuesday, September 3, 2024. This break includes 2 National Day holiday days and 2 regular weekly rest days.

3. Agencies and units implementing the Lunar New Year and National Day holidays in 2024 should arrange work staff reasonably to continuously handle work, ensuring good service for the organization and the public.

4. Agencies and units that do not have regular fixed weekly off days on Saturdays and Sundays should arrange the holiday schedule based on their specific program and plan.

5. For workers not covered under Clause 1 of this Notice, employers decide on the Lunar New Year and National Day holiday plans in 2024 as follows:

- For the Lunar New Year holiday: choose either 1 day at the end of the Year of the Cat and 4 days at the beginning of the Year of the Dragon, or 2 days at the end of the Year of the Cat and 3 days at the beginning of the Year of the Dragon, or 3 days at the end of the Year of the Cat and 2 days at the beginning of the Year of the Dragon.

- For the National Day holiday: Monday, September 2, 2024, and one of the following 2 days: Sunday, September 1, 2024, or Tuesday, September 3, 2024.

- Notify employees of the Lunar New Year and National Day holiday plans in 2024 at least 30 days in advance.

- If a weekly rest day coincides with a holiday stated in Clause 1, Article 112 of the Labour Code, employees are entitled to a compensatory rest day on the next working day as stipulated in Clause 3, Article 111 of the Labour Code.

- Employers are encouraged to apply the holiday time for the Lunar New Year to employees similarly to officials and public employees.

Summary of public holidays and school breaks in the 2024-2025 school year in Vietnam

Based on the provisions in Article 112 of the Labour Code 2019, which stipulates specific holidays as follows:

Public holidays and Tet

1. Employees are entitled to a day off with full pay on the following holidays and Tet:

a) New Year’s Day: 1 day (January 1 of the Gregorian calendar);

b) Lunar New Year: 5 days;

c) Victory Day: 1 day (April 30 of the Gregorian calendar);

d) International Labour Day: 1 day (May 1 of the Gregorian calendar);

đ) National Day: 2 days (September 2 of the Gregorian calendar and 1 adjacent day either before or after);

e) Hung Kings’ Commemoration Day: 1 day (March 10 of the lunar calendar).

2. Foreign employees working in Vietnam, in addition to the holidays stipulated in Clause 1 of this Article, are entitled to one traditional new year's day of their country and one national day of their country.

3. Annually, based on actual conditions, the Prime Minister of the Government of Vietnam specifies the days off stipulated at points b and đ of Clause 1 of this Article.

In Article 1 of Decision 2045/QD-BGDDT of 2024 it is stipulated that students nationwide are expected to start the school year at the end of August or early September and conclude the 2024-2025 school year before May 31, 2024.

Currently, there are no specific regulations on school holidays for students. Therefore, students will study and have holidays according to the schedule of their school and teachers.

Therefore, public holidays during which students might be off in the 2024-2025 school year may include:
