Pursuant to Clause 1, Article 11 of the Undergraduate Training Regulation promulgated in conjunction with Circular 08/2021/TT-BGDDT, the handling of study results based on credits is stipulated as follows:
Handling of Study Results Based on Credits
1. At the end of each main semester, students are warned based on several conditions as follows:
a) The total number of credits failed in the semester exceeds 50% of the registered course load for the semester, or the total number of outstanding credits from the beginning of the course exceeds 24;
b) The semester GPA is below 0.8 for the first semester of the course, below 1.0 for subsequent semesters;
c) The cumulative GPA is below 1.2 for first-year students, below 1.4 for second-year students, below 1.6 for third-year students, and below 1.8 for students in subsequent years.
- Students are subject to expulsion in the following cases:
a) The number of academic warnings or the level of academic warning exceeds the limit as specified by the training institution;
b) The study duration exceeds the limit as stipulated in Clause 5, Article 2 of this Regulation.
- The training institution’s regulation stipulates specifically:
a) The selection of applying certain conditions for academic warning, the limits on the number or levels of academic warning but not exceeding two consecutive warnings;
b) The process and procedures for academic warning, expulsion; the notification of the form of application to students;
c) The preservation of accrued study results in case students are expelled.
Additionally, Clause 4, Article 12 of the Undergraduate Training Regulation promulgated in conjunction with Circular 08/2021/TT-BGDDT regulates the handling of study results based on the academic year as follows:
Handling of Study Results Based on the Academic Year
- At the end of each academic year, students are considered to have met the normal learning progress and are allowed to proceed to the next academic year if they meet both conditions as follows:
a) The annual GPA is at least 1.0 for the first year, at least 1.2 for the second year, and at least 1.4 for the third year onward;
b) The number of outstanding credits from the beginning of the course does not exceed 16.
- Students are subject to expulsion in the following cases:
a) The annual GPA is below 0.8;
b) The cumulative GPA is below 1.2 after two years of study, below 1.4 after three years of study, and below 1.6 from the fourth year onward;
c) The study duration exceeds the limit as stipulated in Clause 5, Article 2 of this Regulation.
- Students not falling under the provisions of Clauses 1 and 2 of this Article are placed in subsequent classes to improve their academic results.
4. The training institution’s regulation stipulates specifically:
a) The selection of applying certain conditions for academic warning similar to the regulations for credit-based training in Clause 1, Article 11 of this Regulation;
b) The process and procedure for academic warning (if any), expulsion; the notification of the form of application to students;
c) The preservation of accrued study results in case students are expelled.
Accordingly, students are subject to academic warnings if their grades are as follows:
* For students trained under the credit system, students are warned if:
- The semester GPA is below 0.8 for the first semester of the course, below 1.0 for subsequent semesters;
- The cumulative GPA is below 1.2 for first-year students, below 1.4 for second-year students, below 1.6 for third-year students, and below 1.8 for students in subsequent years.
* For students trained under the academic year system.
Students trained under the academic year system are warned based on the university’s regulations, which specify the conditions for academic warning, including the GPA conditions for academic warning.

- On a 4-point scale:
+ From 3.6 to 4.0: Excellent;
+ From 3.2 to less than 3.6: Very good;
+ From 2.5 to less than 3.2: Good;
+ From 2.0 to less than 2.5: Average;
+ From 1.0 to less than 2.0: Weak;
+ Below 1.0: Poor.
- On a 10-point scale:
+ From 9.0 to 10.0: Excellent;
+ From 8.0 to less than 9.0: Very good;
+ From 7.0 to less than 8.0: Good;
+ From 5.0 to less than 7.0: Average;
+ From 4.0 to less than 5.0: Weak;
+ Below 4.0: Poor.
What are the conditions for students to be considered and recognized for graduation in Vietnam?

- Accumulate the required modules, the number of credits, and complete other mandatory contents as required by the training program, and meet the output standards of the training program;
- The cumulative GPA of the entire course is at least average;
- At the time of graduation consideration, they are not being prosecuted for criminal responsibility or are not in the period of being disciplined by suspension.
