(1) Domestic events on March 2

- March 2, 1885 – The Battle of Hoa Moc between French troops and Chinese troops besieging Tuyen Quang citadel.

- March 2, 1926, Students from Hue Practical Engineering School marched to the Central Commissioner’s Office presenting three demands: Improving the curriculum - Not humiliating students - Improving student life. The colonial government promised to accept the demands while deploying troops to suppress. Students persisted in strike action, extending the struggle. Eventually, the colonial government conceded.

- March 2, 1930: Nguyen Ai Quoc wrote a letter to the International Communist reporting on the establishment of the Communist Party of Vietnam and a provisional Central Committee. In a letter to comrade Le Hong Phong (then representative of the International Communist), he noted the Communist Party of Vietnam had "over 500 comrades with more than 40 branches, over 3,000 masses."

- March 2, 1943: Dr. A. Yersin passed away in Nha Trang. He was a renowned French-Swiss bacteriologist born in 1863. Since late 1889, he came to Vietnam, dedicating most of his life and efforts to explorations and scientific research in Vietnam, primarily in the Central Highlands. He contributed to the discovery of the Lang Bian Plateau and the establishment of the tourist city Da Lat.

- March 2, 1946: In its first session, the 1st National Assembly established the Government of Vietnam united resistance. The Government of Vietnam consisted of 10 ministers, and Uncle Ho was elected President of the Government of Vietnam. At 10:30 am, the Government took an oath led by President Ho Chi Minh: "We, the Government of Vietnam resisting the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, the highest advisory council, and the resistance committee members, before the sacred altar of the Fatherland, before the National Assembly, swear to resolutely lead the people in resistance, implement Vietnamese democracy, bring freedom and happiness to the nation..."

- March 2, 1959: Uncle Ho arrived in Bandung city of Indonesia. In his speech, he praised "the Bandung spirit spreading strongly worldwide, shaking colonialism to its roots" and during the honorary Doctorate ceremony at Patja Jahan University, he shared: "I did not have the opportunity to study when young, but I learned from society, from life, and learned to love the people, love the country, love peace, and hate imperialism, hate oppression and selfishness." Addressing the students, he encouraged: "Humanity is mastering nature, as well as mastering the fate of society and themselves. The young generation is like spring, like a newly risen star..."

- March 2, 1973: After the Paris Agreement on ending the war and restoring peace in Vietnam was signed, an international conference on Vietnam was convened in Paris with representatives from the Soviet Union, China, the UK, France, the four parties signing the agreement, and the four countries in the international supervision committee (Poland, Canada, Hungary, and Indonesia). All countries attending the conference signed documents recognizing and guaranteeing the Paris Agreement and its protocols to be strictly enforced.

- March 2, 1979: The list of ethnic groups in Vietnam was issued following Decision No. 121 - TCTK/PPCD by the General Statistics Office. This list was established based on cultural practices and consciousness of ethnic groups in Vietnam. Currently, Vietnam has 54 ethnic groups. Each ethnic group has its customs, practices, and distinct characteristics that add to the colorful ethnic flower garden of Vietnam. - March 2, 1969: The first test flight of the Concorde aircraft took place in Toulouse, France. Concorde entered service in 1976 and had a 27-year operating history. It is the most successful commercial supersonic passenger aircraft ever in operation, (the other being the Soviet Union’s Tupolev Tu-144). Due to its only fatal accident (in 2000) along with the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks and other factors, Concorde was retired on October 24, 2003, and its "farewell" flight was on November 26 of that year. Although retired from service, Concorde remains a symbol in aviation history.

- March 2, 1970 – Rhodesia declared itself a Republic, severing its last links with the British monarchy.

1. Zero Discrimination Day (March 1)

2. Border Guard Traditional Day (March 3)

5. International Day of Happiness (March 20)

The International Day of Happiness was officially recognized by the United Nations in 2012. The International Day of Happiness or Day of Happiness, is selected by the United Nations as March 20 annually after all 193 member countries unanimously adopted Resolution A/RES/66/281 on June 20, 2012.

On March 27, 1946, President Ho Chi Minh signed Decree No. 38 establishing the Youth and Physical Education Office under the Ministry of National Education. This is considered the first charter marking the birth of Vietnam's physical education and sports in new policies.

At the first National Communist Party Congress in Macau (China) on March 28, 1935, the Communist Party of Vietnam adopted a Resolution on the Self-defense Team. In March, what are the public holidays in which teachers in Vietnam are entitled to fully paid days off?

Under Article 112 of the Labor Code 2019, teachers in Vietnam are entitled to fully paid days off on the following public holidays :

Public holidays

1. Employees shall be entitled to fully paid days off on the following public holidays:

a) Gregorian Calendar New Year Holiday: 01 day (the 1st of January of the Gregorian calendar);

b) Lunar New Year Holidays: 05 days;

c) Victory Day: 01 day (the 30th of April of the Gregorian calendar);

d) International Labor Day: 01 day (the 1st of May of the Gregorian calendar);

dd) National Day: 02 days (the 2nd of September of the Gregorian calendar and the previous or next day);

e) Hung Kings Commemoration Day: 01 day (the 10th of the third month of the Lunar calendar).

2. Foreign employees in Vietnam are entitled to 01 traditional public holiday and 01 National Day of their country, in addition to the public holidays stipulated in Clause 1 of this Article.

3. The Prime Minister shall decide the specific public holidays mentioned in Point b and Point dd Clause 1 of this Article on an annual basis.

Thus, In March, teachers in Vietnam are entitled to fully paid days off on Hung Kings' Commemoration Day (March 10 in the lunar calendar).

What are the policies for teachers in Vietnam?

Under Article 77 of the Education Law 2019 regarding educational policies for teachers in Vietnam:

- The State shall elaborate policies of recruitment, employment, benefits, guaranteeing material and mental needs of teachers so as to enable them to fulfill their roles and duties.

- Teachers working at specialized schools, schools for gifted students, boarding general education schools or day schools for ethnic minorities, pre-university schools, schools or classes for disabled and handicapped persons, reformatory schools or other special schools, teachers of inclusive education shall receive allowances and other preferential policies.

- The State shall issue incentive and preferential policies on allowances and other policies for teachers working in areas with exceptional socio-economic difficulties.
