Based on Article 33 of the Regulation on lower secondary schools, upper secondary schools, and multi-level schools issued together with Circular 32/2020/TT-BGDDT, the age of students in lower secondary schools are as follows:
Age of lower secondary school students
1. The age for students entering grade 6 is 11 years old. The age for students entering grade 10 is 15 years old. For students who have skipped grades in previous school levels or students entering a school level at an age higher than the stipulated age, the age for entering grade 6 and grade 10 is adjusted based on the graduation age of the previous school level.
- Students who are ethnic minorities, students with disabilities, students with special difficult circumstances, students returning from abroad may enter a school level at an age up to 3 years older than the stipulated age.
- Students shall not be retained more than 3 times in a single school level.
- Students with good health and rapid intellectual development may start school early or skip grades within the school level. The procedure for each specific case is as follows:
a) Parents or guardians submit a request to the school.
b) The principal establishes an assessment and advisory council consisting of representatives of the school leadership and the school parents' association, as well as the teachers of the classes the student is currently attending.
c) Based on the council's assessment and advice, the principal considers and makes a decision.
- Students within the stipulated age returning from abroad, children of foreigners working in Vietnam are entitled to study at local lower secondary schools or other lower secondary schools if the school has the capacity to accept them. The procedure for each specific case is as follows:
a) Parents or guardians submit a request to the school.
b) The principal organizes the assessment of student capability and places them in appropriate classes.

What are the 7 prohibitions for grade 7 students in Vietnam?
According to Article 37 of the Regulation on lower secondary schools, upper secondary schools, and multi-level schools issued together with Circular 32/2020/TT-BGDDT, there are 7 prohibitions for grade 7 students:
(1) Insulting the dignity and reputation, or infringing the body, of teachers, staff, other individuals, and other students.
(2) Cheating in learning, assessments, examinations, and admissions.
(3) Buying, selling, and using alcohol, beer, tobacco, narcotics, and other stimulants, as well as fireworks and flammable explosives.
(4) Using mobile phones and other devices during class time that are not for learning purposes and without teacher’s permission.
(5) Fighting, disturbing order, and security in schools and public places.
(6) Using and exchanging cultural products with violent, obscene content; using toys or engaging in games harmful to one’s healthy development.
(7) Students are prohibited from engaging in other prohibited behaviors according to the law.
