What are the requirements for regular assessment of upper secondary school students in Vietnam?

According to Article 4 of Circular 22/2021/TT-BGDDT, the requirements for assessing upper secondary school students in general, and regular assessment, in particular, include:

- Assessment is based on the required achievements stipulated in the General Education Program.

- Assessment ensures accuracy, comprehensiveness, fairness, honesty, and objectivity.

- Assessment employs various methods, forms, techniques, and tools; combines both regular assessment and periodic assessment.

- Assessment aims for student progress; values encouraging and motivating students' efforts in training and learning; does not compare students with one another.

In addition, according to Article 11 of Circular 22/2021/TT-BGDDT, the assessment of training and learning outcomes of disabled students is conducted according to the principle of encouraging and motivating the learners' efforts and progress.

For disabled students learning through inclusive education, the training and learning outcomes of the subjects that disabled students can meet according to the requirements of the General Education Program are assessed as normal students but with reduced requirements regarding training and learning outcomes.

  1. Regular assessment is conducted through: Q&A, writing, presentations, practice, experiments, learning products.

  2. For a subject, each student is tested and assessed multiple times, among which a number of assessments appropriate to the teaching plan are selected, with results recorded in the tracking and assessment book (by class) for use in assessing the subject's learning outcomes as stipulated in Clause 1, Article 9 of this Circular as follows:

a) For subjects assessed by comments (excluding clusters of learning projects): select 02 (two) times per semester.

b) For subjects assessed by a combination of comments and scores (excluding clusters of learning projects), select the number of regular assessment scores (abbreviated as DDGtx) per semester as follows:

- Subject with 35 periods/year: 02 DDGtx.

- Subject with over 35 periods/year to 70 periods/year: 03 DDGtx.

- Subject with over 70 periods/year: 04 DDGtx.

  1. Manage and guide teachers, staff, students to implement and disseminate the regulations of this Circular to students' parents.

  2. Organize the implementation of student assessment according to the regulations of this Circular at the educational institution; direct, check, and supervise regular and periodic assessments by teachers; monthly record comments and sign the tracking and assessment book (by class).

  3. Check and assess the recording of results in the tracking and assessment book (by class), the tracking and assessment book (by teachers), and student grade books of subject teachers and homeroom teachers; approve the correction of scores and assessment levels of subject teachers with the confirmation of the homeroom teacher.

  4. Organize re-assessment of subjects according to the regulations of Article 14 of this Circular; approve and publish the list of students promoted to the next grade after re-assessment results of subjects, and summer term training results.
