Based on Subsection 1, Section A, Part 12 of the Regulations on the minimum volume of knowledge, required competencies that learners must achieve after graduating from secondary and college levels for industries and professions in the fields of technical technology, architecture, construction works, mechanics, electricity, electronics, communication, and chemistry, issued together with Circular 45/2018/TT-BLDTBXH:
General Introduction to the Majors
College-level biotechnology major is a major that applies technology based on the life sciences, combined with modern technical processes and equipment to exploit the living activities of microorganisms, animal cells, plant cells to produce at industrial scale creating high-quality biological products, serving human life, societal development, and environmental protection, meeting level 5 requirements in the Vietnam National Qualifications Framework.
Biotechnology products are widely applied in human life such as: Vaccines, antibiotics, medical products, fermented foods, bioactive substances, functional foods, plant-animal breeds, pesticides, etc.
Graduates of college-level biotechnology major can perform tasks in laboratories, production facilities, to conduct technical-scientific experiments in analysis, testing, production of products related to biotechnology such as:
- Conduct basic, specialized, and complex experiments; where experiments can be conducted in many fields such as: production of microbial preparations, fermented foods, high-tech agricultural products, plant breeding…;
- Collect information, requirements of the experiment and can work with related parties (laboratory staff, customers, or suppliers) to resolve non-compliant products;
Minimum knowledge volume: 2,500 hours (equivalent to 80 credits).
Thus, according to the above regulations, the college-level biotechnology major is a major that applies technology based on the life sciences, combined with modern technical processes and equipment.
