There are two main theories explaining the name "Black Friday": Origin from Philadelphia: In the 1960s, police in Philadelphia used the term "Black Friday" to describe the chaotic traffic and crowded conditions when people flocked to shop after Thanksgiving. Origin from accounting: Another theory suggests that small stores often recorded losses in red ink and profits in black ink. Thanks to the substantial promotional programs on the Friday after Thanksgiving, many small stores moved from loss to profit, switching from red to black ink. *Why does Black Friday attract so many people? Deep discounts: Stores and brands often release substantial offers and steep discounts on this day, attracting consumers seeking valuable deals. Is it possible for grade 10 students in Vietnam to get a bank card to hunt for Black Friday sales?
Firstly, pursuant to Article 33 of the Charter of lower secondary schools, upper secondary schools, and schools with multiple educational levels issued together with Circular 32/2020/TT-BGDDT:
Age of students in secondary schools
1. The age for students entering grade 6 is 11 years old. The age for students entering grade 10 is 15 years old. For students who skip grades at previous levels or enter at an older age than the regulated age, the age for entering grades 6 and 10 is adjusted based on the age at graduation from the previous level.
2. Students who are ethnic minorities, students with disabilities, students in particularly difficult circumstances, students returning from abroad may be admitted to a level at an age higher by no more than 3 years compared to the regulated age.
3. Students may not repeat a grade more than 3 times within a level.
4. Students with good physical strength and significant intellectual development may enter school early or skip grades within the education level. The consideration of individual cases follows these steps:
a) Parents or guardians submit a request to the school.
b) The principal establishes a survey and advisory board consisting of representatives from the school leadership and the parent representative board of the school; teachers teaching the student's class.
c) Based on the survey and advisory board's results, the principal considers and decides.

Thus, the standard age according to the legal regulations for students entering grade 10 is 15 years old. (Not considering the cases of students skipping grades or studying later than the regulated age).
From there, according to Article 11 of Circular 17/2024/TT-NHNN:
Subjects for opening payment accounts
1. Individuals opening payment accounts at banks, foreign bank branches include:
a) Persons aged 15 or older not restricted or incapacitated under Vietnamese law;
b) Persons younger than 15, or those restricted/incapacitated under Vietnamese law, open payment accounts through a legal representative;
c) Persons with difficulties in perception or behavior control open payment accounts through a guardian.
2. Organizations established and operating legally under Vietnamese law include: legal entities (Vietnamese entities, foreign entities), private enterprises, household businesses, and other organizations being allowed to open payment accounts at banks, foreign bank branches according to the law.
Thus, grade 10 students who is 15 or older, having ID and fully capable of civil acts, can open an account.
Therefore, grade 10 students meeting the legal age criterion can make a bank card to hunt for SALE on Black Friday.
What are rights of grade 10 students in the new school year 2024-2025 in Vietnam?
According to Article 35 of the Charter of lower secondary schools, upper secondary schools, and schools with multiple educational levels issued together with Circular 32/2020/TT-BGDDT, the rights of secondary school students are as follows:
- Be equal in obtaining comprehensive education, ensured conditions regarding time, infrastructure, hygiene, and safety for classroom and home study, provided information on their learning and practice, and allowed to use the facilities for learning, culture, and sports activities of the school as regulated.
- Be respected and protected, treated equally, democratically, entitled to appeal decisions made against them by the school and educational management levels; entitled to transfer schools for valid reasons under current regulations; study ahead of age, skip grades, or study at an older age as per Article 33 of the same charter.
- Participate in activities developing talent in subjects, sports, and arts organized by the school if eligible.
- Receive scholarships or other aid according to regulations for students benefitting from social policies, those in difficult life situations, and those with special capabilities.
- Transfer schools if meeting regulatory conditions; the transfer procedure complies with the regulations of the Minister of Education and Training.
- Enjoy other rights as prescribed by the law.
