What are requirements for a literary work in Literature of upper secondary school level in Vietnam?
Based on Section 3 of the Literature subject in the general education program issued with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, the objectives at the upper secondary school level are as follows:
- Help students continue to develop qualities formed in middle school; expand and enhance the development of qualities with specific manifestations: being resilient, having a personality, ideals, and ambitions, knowing how to preserve and promote Vietnamese cultural values; having integration spirit and global citizenship awareness.
- Continue to develop the capacities formed in middle school with higher attainment requirements:
+ Comprehend both the explicit and implicit content of various types of texts with increased difficulty reflected in their volume, content, and reading requirements; comprehend with the requirement to develop critical thinking;
+ Apply knowledge of the characteristics of literary language, literary movements, author styles, works, and internal and external elements of texts to form independent reading abilities. Master writing argumentative and expository texts (combining expressive methods and argumentative manipulations), following the correct process, having distinct viewpoints, ensuring logic and persuasiveness.
+ Speak and listen flexibly; have the ability to listen and evaluate both the content and expression form of presentations; know how to participate and have a personal opinion, a personality, an appropriate debating attitude in discussions.
Develop literary capacity with requirements: differentiate between literary works and works of other art forms; analyze and comment on the characteristics of literary language; distinguish between what is expressed and what is meant in literature; recognize and analyze, appreciate literary works based on the characteristics of literary styles; have a rich imagination, know how to enjoy, receive and evaluate literature; create some products with literary qualities.
Thus, the objectives regarding literary works in the subject of Literature will be presented throughout the learning process of Literature in general.
What are some mandatory literary works to choose in the subject of Literature in Vietnam?
Based on Section 5 of the Literature subject in the general education program issued with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, the objectives at the upper secondary school level are as follows:
* Mandatory literary works:
- Vietnamese folk literature
+ Choose at least 4 works representative of 4 genres from the treasure of Vietnamese folk tales: legend, fairy tale, fable, comedic story
+ Choose at least 3 folk songs on topics: homeland and country; love, family affection; people and society (lyrical or satirical)
+ Choose at least 1 Vietnamese epic
+ Choose at least 1 narrative poem of Vietnamese ethnic minorities
+ Choose at least 1 cheo or tuong script
- Vietnamese written literature, choose at least 1 work from each of the following authors:
+ Nom poetry, argumentative prose by Nguyen Trai
+ Chinese character poetry by Nguyen Du
+ Nom poetry by Ho Xuan Huong
+ Nom poetry by Nguyen Dinh Chieu
