1. The levels of education and ages for general education are stipulated as follows:

b) Lower secondary education is conducted over 4 school years, from the sixth grade to the ninth grade. Students entering the sixth grade must complete the primary education program. The age of students entering the sixth grade is 11 years old, calculated according to the year;
c) Upper secondary education is conducted over 3 school years, from the tenth grade to the twelfth grade. Students entering the tenth grade must have a lower secondary education diploma. The age of students entering the tenth grade is 15 years old, calculated according to the year.
2. In case students are allowed to skip grades, study at an age higher than the age specified in Clause 1 of this Article, it includes:
a) Students who skip grades in the case of early intellectual development;
b) Students studying at an age higher than the prescribed age in case of grade repetition, students in areas with particularly difficult socio-economic conditions, ethnic minority students, students with disabilities, students with physical or intellectual impairments, orphans without parental support, students from poor households, students returning from abroad, or other cases as prescribed by law.
3. General education is divided into the basic education stage and the vocational education orientation stage. The basic education stage includes primary education and lower secondary education; the vocational education orientation stage is upper secondary education. Students in vocational education institutions are provided with high school cultural knowledge.
4. The Minister of Education and Training stipulates the teaching and learning of Vietnamese for ethnic minority children before entering the first grade; the teaching of high school cultural knowledge in vocational education institutions; the cases specified in Clause 2 of this Article.
Except for cases of grade retention or early/late admission according to the prescribed age, the age and birth year of students in each grade in the 2024-2025 school year can be determined as follows:
