Pursuant to Article 9 of Decision 37/2018/QD-TTg, the Application for registration for recognition of the title of Associate Professor at the university in Vietnam includes the following documents:

- Registration form for recognizing the standard title of professor.

- A copy of the Decision recognizing or appointing the title of associate professor for applicants registering for recognizing the standard title of professor.

- A copy of the diplomas, certificates proving the applicant's proficient use of a foreign language as regulated in Clause 5, Article 2 of Decision 37/2018/QD-TTg.

- A copy of the decision or contract of a visiting lecturer.

- Review from the head of the higher education institution on the training and scientific research results for the lecturer (Sample 02 of Appendix 2 issued together with Decision 37/2018/QD-TTg).

- A copy of the decisions assigning the task of supervising doctorates and masters.

- A copy of the doctoral and master's degree certificates of the students the applicant has been assigned to supervise.

- A copy of the decision or contract assigning scientific and technological tasks; acceptance minutes or decision recognizing the results of implementing scientific and technological tasks.

- A copy (photograph) of patent certificates, useful solutions, national and international awards and accompanying proof documents.

- A copy of the diplomatic letter or contract inviting teaching from a foreign higher education institution specifying the duration of being a specialist and the decision to send the applicant abroad as a specialist educator by the Ministry of Education and Training of Vietnam.

- An overview scientific report (Sample 03 of Appendix 2 issued together with Decision 37/2018/QD-TTg).

- A copy of published scientific articles and training books that have been evaluated and accepted as regulated.

- Certification of the book's usage purpose, certification of participation in the development and improvement of a training program or scientific and technological research, application programs from the head of the higher education institution.

- Copies of diplomas, certificates, decisions, diplomatic letters, or contracts must be certified or notarized as regulated by law.

What are the general standards for the title of Associate Professor in Vietnam?

According to Article 4 of Decision 37/2018/QD-TTg, the general standards for the title of associate professor are as follows:

- Not violating the ethics of educators, not currently under disciplinary actions from reprimand or higher or undergoing a criminal sentence; being honest and objective in teaching, scientific research, and other professional activities.

- Having adequate training time at higher education level or higher:

+ Having sufficient time in training and fostering from university level or higher as regulated in Clauses 2 and 3 of Article 6 of Decision 37/2018/QD-TTg for the title of associate professor;

+ The time a lecturer works as an education specialist at a foreign higher education institution is counted as training time from university level or higher if there is a diplomatic letter or contract of invitation from the foreign higher education institution, specifying the job content, teaching time, or there is a decision from the Minister of Education and Training to send the applicant abroad as an education specialist;

+ Lecturers who have been continuously involved in university-level training for over 10 years up to the deadline for dossier submission, where the last 3 years include up to 12 months of training to enhance skills, such training time will not count as disruption of the last 3 years.

- Completing the assigned tasks and fulfilling the standard teaching hours as regulated by the Minister of Education and Training, with at least half of the teaching hours being direct classroom teaching. For visiting lecturers, at least 50% of the standard teaching hours must be fulfilled.

The head of the higher education institution will provide written evaluations on the tasks assigned to the lecturer, detailing courses, training levels, guidance of theses, dissertations, project reports or graduate projects; regarding their teaching and research outcomes.

- Proficient in at least one foreign language for professional activities and able to communicate in English.

- Having a minimum converted scientific work score as regulated in Clause 8, Article 6 of Decision 37/2018/QD-TTg for the title of associate professor.

What are the duties of an Associate Professor in Vietnam?

Based on Article 3 of Decision 37/2018/QD-TTg, the duties of professors and associate professors are as follows:

- Carrying out duties of lecturers as stipulated in the Education Law 2019, Higher Education Law 2012, lecturer work policies, and other related legal documents.

- Compiling programs, textbooks, and other training materials; teaching, guiding undergraduate thesis projects, master's theses, specialized theses, dissertations, and performing other professional tasks as regulated.

- Researching, developing the application of science and transferring technology to ensure training quality.

- Cultivating ethics, scientific behavior, enhancing professional training, and guiding scientific and technological research orientations for colleagues in the specialized team/group.

- Collaborating with colleagues on professional tasks; participating in scientific and technological consulting activities, technology transfer to serve the economy, society, defense, security, and other tasks.
