Pursuant to Article 6 of the People's Public Security Law 2018, the provision is as follows:
Traditional Day of the People's Public Security
August 19 annually is the Traditional Day of the People's Public Security and is a festival day for “All people to protect national security”.
Thus, August 19 marks the 79th Anniversary of the Traditional Day of the Vietnamese People's Public Security (August 19, 1945 - August 19, 2024).
Do students get a day off on this day?
Currently, some schools have resumed classes after the summer break. However, there is currently no regulation that allows students to have a day off on August 19 (the Traditional Day of the People's Public Security).
In cases where August 19 (the Traditional Day of the People's Public Security) coincides with a weekend day, students would have the day off.
What is the opening ceremony schedule for 2024-2025 school year in Vietnam?
According to Clause 2, Article 1 of Decision 2045/QD-BGDDT 2024, which regulates the framework for the school year 2024-2025 for preschool, general education and continuing education applicable nationwide as follows:

- The earliest school return is one week before the official school start date. For grade 1 specifically, the earliest return is two weeks before the official start date.
2. The school year starts on September 5, 2024.
- The first semester ends before January 18, 2025, and the school year ends before May 31, 2025.
- The recognition for completing primary school and graduation from secondary school before June 30, 2025.
- Complete enrollment for the first grades before July 31, 2025.
- The high school graduation exam for 2025 is projected to take place on June 26 and June 27, 2025.
- Other national exams will be conducted according to regulations and guidelines of the Ministry of Education and Training.
Thus, most students across the country will start the new school year 2024 - 2025 on September 5, 2024.
