Based on Subsection 1, Section A, Part 5 of the Regulations issued together with Circular 55/2018/TT-BLDTBXH, the reception administration program at the college level in Vietnam is defined as follows:
Reception administration program at the college level is a major that directly performs, manages, and operates the front office of tourism accommodation establishments, meeting the requirement of level 5 in the Vietnam National Qualifications Framework.
The jobs of the major are primarily performed at tourism accommodation establishments in a diverse and rich working environment in terms of both space and time; there is frequent interaction with tourists, service providers, and other partners.
The jobs in this profession mainly involve working independently and working in teams in the front office section.
To practice the profession, workers must meet health requirements, have a balanced physique (no deformities, no stuttering, no infectious diseases, and appropriate height), have good communication skills, and maintain a neat and clean appearance; possess professional knowledge and foreign languages; be proficient in general English and specialized English in hotel tourism and other foreign languages; be competent in general and specialized information technology; have professional ethics (honesty, integrity, openness, hospitality, etc.).
Minimum knowledge volume: 1800 hours (equivalent to 65 credits).

- Perform the payment and checkout process for guests according to the standards at accommodation establishments;
- Address other guest requests according to the standards at accommodation establishments;
- Effectively coordinate with other departments at the accommodation establishments in the service process;
- Use and operate various front office equipment correctly and safely;
- Manage and organize the operations related to the front office staff;
- Evaluate the business performance of related departments and individuals in the process of serving guests and propose solutions to improve business efficiency;
- Assess the quality and efficiency of the work performed by the front desk staff;
- Develop recruitment plans and orientation for the development of the front desk human resources that meet work requirements;
- Prepare reports and draft some types of contracts, and sign contracts with customers;
- Utilize basic information technology as regulated; exploit, process, and apply information technology in the professional work of the major;
- Use basic foreign language skills, attain level 2/6 in the Vietnam National Foreign Language Proficiency Framework, and apply the foreign language to the professional work of the major.

- Recognize the importance of planning, organizing the implementation, supervising, inspecting, and evaluating the outcomes of the work at the front office department;
- Explain the quality standards for guest service and how to assess quality and propose measures to improve quality;
- Present basic knowledge about politics, culture, society, law, national defense, security, and physical education as prescribed.
