Based on Sub-section 5, Section A of Part 12 on regulations regarding minimum knowledge volume and competency requirements that students must achieve upon graduating from intermediate and college levels for the technical fields of electricity, electronics, and telecommunications (hereinafter referred to as the Regulations), issued together with Circular 48/2018/TT-BLDTBXH, graduates in industrial refrigeration equipment operation and maintenance at the college level can undertake the following jobs:
- Operating industrial refrigeration systems;
- Operating residential and commercial air conditioning systems;
- Maintaining industrial refrigeration systems; maintaining residential and commercial air conditioning systems; repairing industrial refrigeration systems;
- Repairing residential and commercial air conditioning systems;
- Trading and servicing refrigeration materials and equipment.

What are regulations on the industrial refrigeration equipment operation and maintenance at the college level in Vietnam?
According to Sub-section 1, Section A of Part 12 of the Regulations issued together with Circular 48/2018/TT-BLDTBXH, college-level industrial refrigeration equipment operation and maintenance is defined as follows:
College-level industrial refrigeration equipment operation and maintenance encompasses operations, maintenance, and repair of refrigeration equipment at facilities using such equipment, like post-harvest processing and preservation plants, breweries, pharmaceutical factories, dairy factories, textile mills, supermarkets, restaurants, skyscrapers, resorts, installation units of refrigeration systems; consultancy units; and businesses providing refrigeration equipment services. This meets Level 5 requirements in the Vietnamese National Qualifications Framework.
Main responsibilities of the industry include:
- Operating industrial refrigeration systems;
- Operating residential and commercial air conditioning systems;
- Maintaining industrial refrigeration systems;
- Maintaining residential and commercial air conditioning systems
;- Repairing industrial refrigeration systems;
- Repairing residential and commercial air conditioning systems;
- Trading, servicing, and providing consultancy on refrigeration materials and equipment operation and maintenance.
Individuals working in the Industrial Refrigeration Equipment Operation and Maintenance field often work under high intensity, in environments with fluctuating temperatures, noise levels, and exposure to electrical equipment, pressure equipment, and refrigerants; facing time constraints and demands to ensure satisfaction from businesses, customers, and partners.
To practice, workers must possess good health, high professional ethics, a cooperative spirit, teamwork skills, sufficient professional knowledge, and job skills adaptable to the work position. They should have knowledge of foreign languages, computing, and Vietnamese law.
Additionally, continuous self-learning, updating on new issues, access to new and green technologies in the trained field, meticulousness, clarity, and passion for the profession are essential.
Minimum knowledge volume: 1,800 hours (equivalent to 65 credits).
What are knowledge requirements for college-level industrial refrigeration equipment operation and maintenance students in Vietnam?
Based on Sub-section 2, Section A of Part 12 of the Regulations issued together with Circular 48/2018/TT-BLDTBXH, the knowledge requirements for students in college-level industrial refrigeration equipment operation and maintenance are as follows:
- Present the standard regulations in the drawings related to the operation and maintenance of refrigeration equipment;
- Analyze the equipment diagram and operating principles of refrigeration systems;
- Explain the essence of operating principles, construction principles of refrigeration equipment, and point out specific and specialized features of each type and according to each manufacturer;
- Describe the operation principles of control devices, measurement, and inspection equipment;
- Explain the procedures for operating, maintaining, and repairing refrigeration equipment in industrial, residential, and commercial settings;
- Analyze the phenomena, causes of failures, and ways to inspect, repair, and replace refrigeration equipment;
- Analyze technical characteristics, compare specifications of details, assemblies, and refrigeration equipment in industrial, residential, and commercial air conditioning systems;
- Understand the heat balance calculation methods and preliminary cooling capacity calculations of refrigeration equipment;
- Explain safety measures for fire and explosion prevention, labor accident prevention, and first aid methods;
- Describe the requirements and measures for greening the profession of operating and maintaining refrigeration equipment;
- Present basic management principles, methods for planning, organizing implementation, monitoring, and assessing the operation, maintenance, and repair processes of refrigeration equipment;
- Illustrate basic political, cultural, social, legal, national defense, security, and physical education knowledge as prescribed.
