According to Subsection 5 Section A Part 2 of the Regulations on the minimum knowledge volume, competency requirements that learners must achieve after graduating from intermediate and college levels for industries and professions in the fields of tourism, hotels, sports, and personal services (hereinafter referred to as the Regulations) issued in conjunction with Circular 55/2018/TT-BLDTBXH, college graduates in tourism management can work in the following positions:
- Booking services for tourism;
- Managing and executing tourism tours;
- Supervising the management and execution of tourism tours;
- Managing the tourism tour management department.

What is the nature of the college-level tourism management in Vietnam?
Based on Subsection 1 Section A Part 2 of the Regulations issued along with Circular 55/2018/TT-BLDTBXH, the college-level tourism management profession is as follows:
College-level tourism management is a profession that involves managing, organizing, and arranging services for tourism tours, resolving situations arising during the execution of the tour to ensure the provision of accurate, full, and best services according to customer requirements;
In addition, the tourism management profession can also receive, process booking information, cooperate with business departments, tour guides, and other related departments to manage and execute tourism tours; establish and maintain good relationships with service providers and partners; ensure customer safety and security by regulations; manage, supervise staff, and scientifically and strictly evaluate work results, meeting level 5 requirements in the Vietnam National Qualification Framework.
The work of the tourism management profession is mainly carried out in travel businesses, travel agency offices, and other tourism service establishments in a very diverse working environment, frequently interacting with customers, service providers, partners, and related departments.
However, the profession's work intensity is high and must deal with significant time pressure, quickly and definitively addressing issues arising during management and execution of tours.
To practice, workers need to ensure essential working conditions such as a modern, convenient office, support tools for information searching, means of transportation, communication means, management software, professional documents, internal regulations on service provision and management, etc.
Besides, tour managers must have sufficient professional knowledge, solid professional skills, and corresponding foreign language proficiency; suitable health and appearance; good communication and conduct skills; and must possess professional ethics.
Furthermore, tourism management requires workers to have the capacity to manage, organize, supervise, and manage related work, full awareness of the community and society, and a correct understanding of the development and construction path of the country.
What are the required skills for college-level tourism management graduates after graduation in Vietnam?
Based on Subsection 3 Section A Part 2 of the Regulations issued along with Circular 55/2018/TT-BLDTBXH, college-level tourism management graduates must meet the following skill requirements after graduation:
- Apply knowledge about Vietnamese tourism in supporting and advising development orientation for travel businesses;
- Develop tourism tours for domestic and international destinations;
- Perform exit and entry procedures, regulations on waterway, road, and air transportation during the management and execution of tourism tours;
- Manage, use, and train personnel to organize and execute group work, department work, and conduct training, and staff training to meet job requirements;
- Implement the work process and content in the office of travel businesses;
- Coordinate with departments in managing and executing tourism tours;
- Apply processes to create, store, manage customer files and service providers in the job;
- Plan, manage, and organize meetings;
- Manage incidents and emergency situations in the management and execution of tourism tours;
- Manage and use correctly and safely the equipment in travel businesses;
- Supervise and execute processing tasks of payments, transactions with service providers, and customers;
- Use basic information technology as regulated; exploit, process, apply information technology in the specialized work of the profession;
- Use basic foreign languages, achieving level 2/6 in the Vietnam Foreign Language Competency Framework, and apply foreign languages to the specialized work of the profession.
