According to the stipulations in Subsection 5, Section A, Part 4 of the Regulations on minimum knowledge volume, competency requirements that learners must achieve upon graduation at the intermediate level, associate degree for sectors and disciplines related to tourism, hospitality, sports, and personal services (hereinafter referred to as the Regulations) issued together with Circular 55/2018/TT-BLDTBXH, associate degree students in tourism management can work in the following positions:
- Designing travel programs;
- Marketing and communication;
- Business and customer care;
- Operating travel program organizations;
- Designing travel program administrations;
- Organizing travel program administrations;
- Managing travel business organization.

What kind of discipline is the tourism management in Vietnam?
According to Subsection 1, Section A, Part 4 of the Regulations issued together with Circular 55/2018/TT-BLDTBXH, the associate degree in tourism management is defined as follows:
Tourism management at the associate level is a discipline that directly executes, manages, and coordinates travel activities.
The duties of the tourism management discipline include:
- Designing travel programs;
- Promoting and selling travel products;
- Managing and solving issues arising during the implementation of travel programs to ensure good customer care, maintain market share, and establish and maintain good relationships with partners;
- Ensuring safety and security for customers as per regulations;
- Managing, supervising personnel, and closely evaluating job performance to achieve high business efficiency, meeting level 5 requirements in the Vietnam National Qualification Framework.
Major tasks are usually performed at travel business enterprises, travel agency offices, and other travel service businesses in a diverse and rich working environment, often involving interaction with customers, service providers, and domestic and international partners.
To practice, workers need to be equipped with tools and machinery such as office equipment, communication devices, specialized documents... They need to have disciplineal knowledge and foreign language skills; good health, suitable appearance; communication skills, and disciplineal ethics.
Additionally, the tourism management discipline requires workers to have the ability to direct, manage, supervise the aforementioned tasks and possess foreign language skills appropriate for each management level.
Minimum knowledge volume: 1800 hours (equivalent to 65 credits)
What are the skill requirements for college graduates in tourism management in Vietnam?
According to Subsection 3, Section A, Part 4 of the Regulations issued together with Circular 55/2018/TT-BLDTBXH, associate degree graduates in tourism management must meet the following skill requirements:
- Organize surveys, operate and design basic and complex travel programs;
- Build travel programs suitable to customer needs;
- Effectively organize the advertising and selling of travel programs;
- Manage and operate the implementation of travel programs according to the correct procedures;
- Create, store, manage customer files and service provider records;
- Comply with and execute the working procedures in travel agencies;
- Manage customer care and effectively resolve customer complaints;
- Supervise and establish and maintain relationships with service providers;
- Update new knowledge and information about tourist routes, destinations;
- Manage and use properly and safely travel service equipment;
- Supervise and effectively handle payment transactions and dealings with service providers and customers;
- Apply information technology to the use of booking software in travel service business;
- Draft and finalize travel contracts as per customer requirements;
- Use basic information technology as per regulations; exploit, process, and apply information technology in disciplineal work of the sector/discipline;
- Use basic foreign language, reaching level 2/6 in Vietnam's Foreign Language Competency Framework, and apply foreign language in disciplineal work of the sector/discipline.
What are the knowledge requirements for college graduates in tourism management in Vietnam?
According to Subsection 2, Section A, Part 4 of the Regulations issued together with Circular 55/2018/TT-BLDTBXH, associate degree graduates in tourism management must meet the following knowledge requirements:
- Identify basic knowledge of politics, law, and social culture suitable to the major such as: Tourism Law, Cultural Heritage Law, Environmental Protection Law, Business Law...;
- Present knowledge of history, culture, geography, tourist destinations in travel business operations;
- Present the principles, management procedures in general, management of the execution and organization of travel programs, financial management, human resource management, facility management;
- Describe the organizational structure, functions, tasks of departments in the travel service business company; relationships among departments in the travel service business company;
- Identify the working procedures and content at the office of travel service businesses;
- Present the procedures for creating, storing, managing customer files and service provider records;
- Describe the travel program construction process;
- Identify procedures and methods for organizing the sale of products suitable to the target market;
- Present steps in the process of managing and implementing travel programs;
- Understand the regulations on entry-exit procedures;
- Identify the role and importance of training employees to meet disciplineal standards;
- Describe the method of planning, managing, and organizing meetings;
- Present the procedures and principles for managing incidents and emergencies in travel business operations;
- Explain the role of establishing and maintaining relationships with partners at destinations, and with service providers for travel programs;
- Present basic knowledge of politics, culture, society, law, national defense and security, and physical education as stipulated.
