What are the standards to become a physical education teacher in Vietnam?
Based on Clause 1, Article 4 of Decree 11/2015/ND-CP, the standards for physical education teachers are stipulated as follows:
Physical education teachers
- physical education teachers must ensure compliance with the standards and qualifications of educational institutions as stipulated in Articles 70 and 77 of the Education Law.

Thus, the current criteria and training standards to become a physical education teacher are specified in Article 67 and Article 72 of the Education Law 2019. To be specific:
- Educators must meet the following criteria:
+ Possess good character, ideology, and ethics;
+ Meet professional standards according to job position;
+ Have the skills to update and enhance professional capacity and expertise;
+ Ensure health standards as required by the profession.
- The training standards for educators are stipulated as follows:
+ Have a diploma of college in pedagogy or higher for preschool teachers;
+ Have a bachelor’s degree in the field of teacher training or higher for primary, lower secondary, and upper secondary school teachers.
In cases where the subject lacks teachers with a bachelor’s degree in teacher training, a relevant professional bachelor’s degree and a certificate in pedagogy training are required;
+ Have a master’s degree for educators teaching at the university level; a doctoral degree for educators teaching and supervising master's theses and doctoral dissertations;
+ The training standards for educators teaching in vocational education institutions are implemented according to the Vocational Education Law 2014.

What is the current salary of a physical education teacher in Vietnam?
According to Clause 2, Article 3 of Decree 73/2024/ND-CP from July 1, 2024, the statutory pay rate is 2,340,000 VND/month. Thus, according to the guidance in 04 Circulars from the Ministry of Education and Training, including Circular 01/2021/TT-BGDDT, Circular 02/2021/TT-BGDDT, Circular 03/2021/TT-BGDDT, Circular 04/2021/TT-BGDDT (amended by Circular 08/2023/TT-BGDDT), the current salary for physical education teachers is regulated according to the salary scale as follows:

What are rights and obligations of physical education teachers in Vietnam?
According to the provisions of Article 6 of Circular 48/2020/TT-BGDĐT, the rights and duties of physical education teachers are stipulated as follows:
- Duties of physical education instructors
+ Advise school leadership on diversifying forms of organizing sports activities; spearhead organizing sports events; manage, direct, and guide the establishment of sports clubs, maintain and develop the sports movement within the school.
+ Based on learners' needs and the school's actual conditions, actively advise on mobilizing resources of physical education instructors of the school and invite external instructors to participate in guiding the effective organization of sports activities.
+ Discover and train students with sports talents to compete in grassroots, national, and international sports competitions; propose specific measures to assist students with weak physical fitness who do not meet the physical education program, do not satisfy the standards of physical assessment, and classification; students with congenital diseases may be exempted or participate in training with suitable content and forms.
+ Perform other duties of an educator as stipulated by current regulations.
- Rights of physical education instructors
+ Receive training, enhancement, and improvement in professional knowledge, methods, forms, and skills to organize sports activities within the school.
+ Be facilitated to participate in coaching teams of students from the school.
+ Enjoy the rights and policies of educators, as well as other policies in the field of physical education and sports according to current regulations.
