Annual working time and leave time
1. The working time of primary school teachers in a school year is 42 weeks, including:
a) 35 weeks for teaching and educational activities according to the school year's time plan regulations.
b) 05 weeks for studying and improving professional skills.
c) 01 week for preparing for the new school year.
d) 01 week for summarizing the school year.
2. The working time of middle and high school teachers in a school year is 42 weeks, including:
a) 37 weeks for teaching and educational activities according to the school year's time plan regulations.
b) 03 weeks for studying and improving professional skills.
c) 01 week for preparing for the new school year.
d) 01 week for summarizing the school year.
2a. The working time of university preparatory school teachers is 42 weeks, including:
a) 28 weeks for teaching and educational activities according to the school year's time plan regulations;
b) 12 weeks for studying, improving professional skills, developing materials, scientific research, and other activities according to the school year's plan;
c) 01 week for preparing for the new school year;
d) 01 week for summarizing the school year.

How long is the summer vacation for public primary school teachers in Vietnam?

3. The annual leave time for teachers includes: summer vacation, Lunar New Year vacation, semester vacation, and other holidays. To be specific:
a) The annual summer vacation for teachers is 02 months (including annual leave according to the Labor Code), with full salary and allowances (if any);
b) Lunar New Year vacation, semester vacation according to the regulations of the Minister of Education and Training;
c) Other holidays according to the Labor Code.
Based on the school year's plan, scale, characteristics, and specific conditions of each school, the principal arranges the annual leave time for teachers in a reasonable conformable manner.
As such, public primary school teachers are entitled to a summer vacation of 02 months (including annual leave according to the Labor Code 2019), with full salary and allowances (if any).
What are the duties of a primary school teacher as a homeroom teacher in Vietnam?
According to Article 3 and Article 4 of the Regulations on working policies for general education teachers issued together with Circular 28/2009/TT-BGDDT stipulate the duties of primary school teachers as homeroom teachers. To be specific:
- Perform according to the regulations in the Charter of primary Schools, the Charter of Middle Schools, High Schools, and Schools with Multiple Grades; the Organizational and Operational Regulations of Ethnic Boarding Schools, Ethnic Semi-Boarding Schools, Specialized Schools, and University Preparatory Schools.
- Understand and grasp the pupils in the class comprehensively to have appropriate educational organization measures to promote the progress of each pupil and the whole class;
- Closely coordinate with pupils' families, proactively cooperate with subject teachers, the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, Ho Chi Minh Young Pioneer Organization, related organizations, and other social organizations in teaching and educating the class's pupils;
- Comment, evaluate, and classify pupils at the end of terms and the school year, propose rewards and discipline for pupils, propose the list of pupils promoted, the list of pupils requiring re-examination or improvement in conduct during summer vacation, those who must repeat the class, and complete recording in grade books and pupil records;
- Participate in guiding collective activities, educational activities, and pupil training activities organized by the school;
- Report regularly or unexpectedly on the situation of the class to the principal.
