Regions for bonus points in university admissions in Vietnam in 2024
Based on Clause 1, Article 7 of the University Admission Regulations, and College Admission in Early Childhood Education issued with Circular 08/2022/TT-BGDDT and Appendix I issued with Circular 08/2022/TT-BGDDT, the division of university admission Regions and the contents of adding bonus points for Region 1 are stipulated as follows:
Region 1 (KV1): Add 0.75 points for
- Communes of Regions 1, 2, 3, and communes with especially difficult villages in ethnic and mountainous regions;- Especially difficult communes in coastal and island Regions;- Especially difficult communes, border communes, and safe zone communes within the investment scope of Program 135, as regulated by the Prime Minister of the Government of Vietnam.
Rural Region 2 (KV2-NT)
Regions not belonging to KV1, KV2, KV3;
Region 2 (KV2)
District-level towns, provincial cities; district-level towns, suburban districts of centrally governed cities (excluding communes belonging to KV1).
Region 3 (KV3)
Inner districts of centrally governed cities.

What are the bonus points in university admissions in Vietnam?
According to Clause 10, Article 2, University Admission Regulations, and College Admission in Early Childhood Education issued with Circular 08/2022/TT-BGDDT, bonus points in university admissions are the points' difference from the admission score applied for the priority group of candidates compared to the normal admission score; it is also the number of points added to the examination score to apply the normal admission score.
What are the types of bonus point in university admissions in Vietnam in 2024?
Regional bonus point Addition Policy in Admissions
Based on Clause 1, Article 7, University Admission Regulations, and College Admission in Early Childhood Education issued with Circular 08/2022/TT-BGDDT, the regional bonus point addition policy in admissions is as follows:
- The bonus point level applied for Region 1 (KV1) is 0.75 points; Rural Region 2 (KV2-NT) is 0.5 points; Region 2 (KV2) is 0.25 points; Region 3 (KV3) does not receive bonus points;
- The admission Region of each candidate is determined by the school location where the candidate studied the longest during high school (or middle school); if the longest study duration in different Regions is equivalent, it is determined by the Region of the school attended last;
- The following cases are entitled to regional priority as per their place of residence:
+ Students of ethnic boarding schools enjoy state priority and preferential policies as per regulations;
+ Students with a permanent residence (during high school or middle school) of over 18 months in Region 3 and communes with especially difficult villages in ethnic and mountainous regions as regulated by the Minister, Chairman of the Committee for Ethnic Minority Affairs, and the Prime Minister of the Government of Vietnam; especially difficult communes in coastal and island Regions; especially difficult communes, border communes, and safe zone communes within the investment scope of Program 135 (Decision 135/QD-TTg of 1998); especially difficult villages and communes in Regions regulated by the Prime Minister of the Government of Vietnam if they studied high school (or middle school) in a location within the district, district-level town, or city under the province with at least one especially difficult commune.
+ Military personnel; officers, junior officers, conscripts in the People's Public Security assigned to attend the entry exam; if stationed for over 18 months in an Region, they are entitled to priority of that Region or their residence before enlistment, whichever has higher priority; if stationed in Regions with different priority levels for over 18 months, they are entitled to the priority level where they were stationed the longest; if stationed for less than 18 months, they are entitled to the priority of their residence before enlistment;
- From 2023, candidates will be entitled to the regional priority policy as regulated in the year they graduate from high school (or middle school) and the following year.
