What are the regulations on the third exam subject of the 10th-grade entrance exam in Vietnam?

According to clause 1, Article 13 of the Regulation on enrollment for lower and upper secondary education issued with Circular 30/2024/TT-BGDDT (effective from February 14, 2025), the third exam subject of the 10th-grade entrance exam in Vietnam is as follows:

- The third exam subject/paper is selected by the Department of Education and Training from one of the following two options:

+ The third subject is selected from the subjects assessed via scores in the lower secondary education program, ensuring not to select the same third subject for more than three consecutive years;

+ The third paper is a combination of some subjects selected from those assessed via scores in the lower secondary education program.

For upper secondary schools under the Ministry of Education and Training, parent universities, universities, and research institutes with separate entrance exams, the third paper is directly managed and selected by these institutions.

- The third paper is announced after the end of the first semester but no later than March 31 each year.

- Duration:

+ Third subject: 60 minutes or 90 minutes.

+ Third paper: 90 minutes or 120 minutes.

What is the process for enrollment to 10th grade in Vietnam?

Under Article 12 of the Regulation on enrollment for lower and upper secondary education issued with Circular 30/2024/TT-BGDDT (effective from February 14, 2025), the process for 10th-grade enrollment is as follows:

(1) The Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee approves the enrollment plan for upper secondary education. The plan includes the following basic contents: candidates; enrollment targets and areas; enrollment methods; direct admission; priorities, encouragements; time for admission, and announcement of enrollment results. The enrollment plan is announced before March 31 each year.

For upper secondary schools under the Ministry of Education and Training, parent universities, universities, and research institutes, the enrollment plan for upper secondary education is directly managed and decided by the Minister of Education and Training, Directors of parent universities, principals of universities, Directors of Research Institutes after agreement with the Department of Education and Training where the school is located.

(2) Based on the approved enrollment plan for upper secondary education, the Enrollment Council for upper secondary education creates and publicly announces the school's enrollment plan; and organizes registration, reception, and preparation for enrollment registration.

(3) The Enrollment Council for upper secondary education conducts enrollment according to the approved plan; and proposes a list of accepted students to the School Principal to submit to the Director of Education and Training for approval.

For upper secondary schools under the Ministry of Education and Training, parent universities, universities, and research institutes, the list of accepted students is directly managed and approved by the Minister of Education and Training, Directors of parent universities, principals of universities, and Directors of Research Institutes.
