System of Specialized Schools
The specialized school system includes specialized schools under the province, centrally governed cities (hereinafter collectively referred to as provincial specialized schools), and specialized schools under higher education institutions.
Each province, centrally governed city has at least one (1) specialized school.
Therefore, the objective of specialized upper secondary schools is to train students who achieve good results in training and studying, to help these students develop their talents in certain subjects while ensuring comprehensive general education, creating a source of talent training to meet the development needs of the country.

How many students are there in a class at specialized upper secondary schools in Vietnam?
Based on Article 8 of the Regulation on the Organization and Operation of specialized upper secondary schools issued together with Circular 05/2023/TT-BGDDT, the provisions on classes in specialized schools are as follows:
Classes in Specialized Schools
Classes in specialized schools are organized according to the subjects in the general education program issued by the Minister of Education and Training, including: Literature, History, Geography, Foreign Languages, Mathematics, Informatics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology (hereinafter collectively referred to as specialized classes).
Non-specialized classes are not organized in specialized schools.
3. Each specialized class has no more than 35 students.
- Based on the conditions ensuring the quality of education and the proposal of the principal of the specialized school, the managing authority of the specialized school decides the number of specialized subjects and the number of specialized classes for each specialized subject.
Therefore, classes at specialized upper secondary schools are organized according to subjects. Each specialized class at a specialized upper secondary school has no more than 35 students.
What are the principles of admission to specialized upper secondary schools in Vietnam?

- Principles of Admission
a) Following the regulations on the admission of lower secondary and upper secondary schools issued by the Ministry of Education and Training;
b) Ensuring the selection of students with intelligent qualities and good results in training and studying at the lower secondary level, capable of studying at specialized schools;
c) Ensuring accuracy, objectivity, fairness, transparency, and equality between provincial specialized schools and specialized schools under higher education institutions.

Thus, the principles of admission to specialized upper secondary schools are as follows:
- Follow Article 2 of the Regulation on the Admission of Lower Secondary and Upper Secondary Schools issued together with Circular 11/2014/TT-BGDDT, amended by Clause 1, Article 1 of Circular 05/2018/TT-BGDDT, specifically:
+ Annually, organize a single admission, ensuring accuracy, fairness, objectivity, and implementing the task of universalizing lower secondary education in the locality.
+ The age of students in lower secondary schools and upper secondary schools is specified according to the regulations in the Charter for Lower Secondary Schools, Upper Secondary Schools, and Schools with Multiple Education Levels issued together with Circular 32/2020/TT-BGDDT.
- Ensure the selection of students with intelligent qualities and good results in training and studying at the lower secondary level, capable of studying at specialized schools;
- Ensure accuracy, objectivity, fairness, transparency, and equality between provincial specialized schools and specialized schools under higher education institutions.
