In Section 3 of the General Education Program issued together with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, the regulations are as follows:
1. Basic Education Stage
1.1. primary school Level
a) Educational Content
Compulsory subjects and educational activities: Vietnamese Language; Mathematics; Ethics; Foreign Language 1 (in grades 3, 4, 5); Natural and Social Sciences (in grades 1, 2, 3); History and Geography (in grades 4, 5); Science (in grades 4, 5); Information Technology and Technology (in grades 3, 4, 5); Physical Education; Arts (Music, Fine Arts); Experiential Activities.
Elective subjects: Ethnic Minority Language, Foreign Language 1 (in grades 1, 2).
b) Duration of Education
Two sessions per day, with no more than 7 periods per day; each period lasts 35 minutes. Educational institutions that are not able to organize two sessions per day will follow the educational plan as guided by the Ministry of Education and Training.

Based on Section 2 of the General Education Program issued together with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, the objectives of the general education program at all levels in Vietnam are as follows:
The general education program specifies the goals of general education, helping students master general knowledge, effectively apply learned knowledge and skills in life, self-study for life, and have career orientation, know how to build and develop harmonious social relationships, have personality, character, and a rich emotional life, thereby having a meaningful life and making positive contributions to the development of the country and humanity.
The elementary education program helps students form and develop fundamental elements laying the foundation for harmonious physical and mental development, qualities, and capabilities; mainly oriented towards education about self-values, family, community, and necessary habits and discipline in learning and living.
The Lower secondary school education program helps students develop qualities and competencies formed and developed in primary school, self-regulate according to common social standards, know how to apply positive learning methods to complete fundamental knowledge and skills, have basic awareness about professions and career orientation to continue studying in Upper secondary school, pursue vocational training, or participate in productive life.
The Upper secondary school education program helps students continue to develop necessary qualities and competencies of workers, civic consciousness and character, self-learning ability and lifelong learning consciousness, career choice ability matching their capabilities and interests, conditions, and circumstances for further education, vocational training, or participation in productive life, and adaptability to changes in the context of globalization and new industrial revolutions.
