- Teaching, guiding, and grading projects and graduation theses; participating in teaching master's and doctoral programs and guiding and evaluating master's theses, doctoral dissertations if meeting the required standards;

- Leading or participating in the development and improvement of educational programs; proposing policies, directions, and measures for the development of the assigned field or specialization; proactively suggesting solutions to improve teaching quality, assessment methods, and student training;

- Leading or participating in the compilation of textbooks for educational purposes; leading or participating in scientific and technological tasks;

- Leading or participating in the evaluation of scientific research proposals and projects; writing and presenting scientific reports at conferences and workshops; participating in international cooperation activities and ensuring the quality of higher education;

- Participating in class advisement and student counseling; guiding discussions, practice sessions, experiments, and internships;

- Participating in the training of lecturers as required for the professional and pedagogical development of the faculty or specialization;

- Studying and undertaking professional development to enhance political, professional, and educational expertise; engaging in practical activities to improve the quality of education and scientific research;

- Participating in administrative duties, Communist Party, and union activities, and fulfilling other tasks according to the regulations and operations of the public higher education institution and other relevant legal provisions.

What are the professional, expertise, and ethical standards Required for a senior lecturer at a public university in Vietnam?

- Professional and expertise standards. According to Clause 3, Article 6 of Circular 40/2020/TT-BGDDT, a senior lecturer at a public university must meet the following standards:

+ Possess solid knowledge of the subjects assigned to teach and basic knowledge of some related subjects within the assigned training specialization;

+ Understand and effectively implement the objectives, plans, content, and programs of the subjects assigned; promptly grasp the practical requirements of the training specialization;

+ Lead at least one scientific and technological task at the institutional level or higher, which has been accepted with satisfactory results or higher;

+ Lead or participate in the compilation of at least one textbook for educational purposes, evaluated, accepted, and put into use in training and professional development from the undergraduate level upwards, suitable to the lecturer's teaching or training field, and with an international standard ISBN code;

+ Be the author of at least three scientific articles published in scientific journals with an international standard ISSN code;

+ Ability to apply information technology and use foreign languages in fulfilling the duties of the senior lecturer (Class II) title;

+ Civil servants or teachers competing or considering promotion from the teacher's professional title (Class III), code V.07.01.03 to the senior lecturer's professional title (Class II), code V.07.01.02 must have served in the teacher's professional title (Class III), code V.07.01.03 or equivalent for at least nine years for those with a master's degree, and at least six years for those with a doctoral degree; among which there must be at least one year (full 12 months) holding the teacher's professional title (Class III), code V.07.01.03 up to the deadline for submitting the promotion application.

- Ethical standards. According to Article 3 of Circular 40/2020/TT-BGDDT, a senior lecturer at a public university must meet the following ethical standards:

+ Be passionate about the profession, maintaining the teachers' qualities, reputation, and honor; foster a spirit of solidarity, respect, and cooperation with colleagues in life and work; show kindness, tolerance, and cordiality towards students and trainees; protect the legitimate rights and interests of students, colleagues, and the community.

+ Be dedicated to work; adhere to the rules and regulations of the public university and legal provisions.

+ Be fair in teaching and education, accurately evaluate the students' capabilities; practice thriftiness, combat achievement obsession, corruption, and wastefulness.

+ Other ethical standards according to legal provisions.
