Regarding academic warnings, they will be mandatorily applied when processing credit-based academic results in the cases stipulated in Clause 1, Article 11 of the Undergraduate Training Regulations issued with Circular 08/2021/TT-BGDDT:

At the end of each main semester, students receive academic warnings based on several criteria as follows:

(1) The total number of credits not achieved in the semester exceeds 50% of the registered credit load for that semester, or the accumulated debt credits from the beginning of the course exceed 24;

(2) The semester grade point average (GPA) is below 0.8 for the first semester of the course, below 1.0 for subsequent semesters;

(3) The cumulative GPA is below 1.2 for first-year students, below 1.4 for second-year students, below 1.6 for third-year students, and below 1.8 for students in subsequent years.

With respect to processing academic results on an annual basis, as provided in Clause 4, Article 12 of the Undergraduate Training Regulations issued with Circular 08/2021/TT-BGDDT, training institutions may choose to apply some similar conditions for academic warnings as those applicable to credit-based training.

According to Clause 2, Article 11 of the Undergraduate Training Regulations issued with Circular 08/2021/TT-BGDDT, the handling of credit-based academic warnings is as follows:

2. Students shall be expelled in the following cases:

a) The number of academic warnings or the level of academic warnings exceed the limit stipulated by the training institution;

b) The duration of study exceeds the limit as provided in Clause 5, Article 2 of these Regulations.

There is no specific number for the number of academic warnings for university students. If a student's number of academic warnings exceeds the limit as stipulated by their school, the student may be expelled.

Additionally, for students whose academic results are assessed on an annual basis, Article 12 of the Undergraduate Training Regulations issued with Circular 08/2021/TT-BGDDT stipulates that students shall be expelled in the following cases:

- The annual GPA is below 0.8;

- The cumulative GPA is below 1.2 after 2 years of study, below 1.4 after 3 years, and below 1.6 from the 4th year onwards;

- The duration of study exceeds the stipulated limit.

According to Clause 3, Article 11 of the Undergraduate Training Regulations issued with Circular 08/2021/TT-BGDDT, for training institutions handling university students' academic results by credits, the regulation includes the following contents:

- The option to apply certain conditions for academic warnings, limits on the number of times or levels of academic warnings but not exceeding 2 consecutive warnings;

- Processes and procedures for academic warnings, expulsion; notification of the applicable measures to students;

- Retention of accumulated academic results in cases where students are expelled.

According to Clause 4, Article 12 of the Undergraduate Training Regulations issued with Circular 08/2021/TT-BGDDT, for training institutions handling academic results of university students on an annual basis, the regulation includes the following contents:

- The option to apply certain conditions for academic warnings similar to those stipulated for credit-based training.

- Processes and procedures for academic warnings (if any), expulsion; notification of the applicable measures to students;

- Retention of accumulated academic results in cases where students are expelled.
