What are the amounts of health insurance benefits that students undergoing off-route healthcare services covered by health insurance in Vietnam are entitled to?
Based on Article 22 of the Law on Health Insurance 2008 as amended by Clause 15, Article 1 of the Amended Law on Health Insurance 2014, if students receive health insurance medical treatment out-of-network during the 2024-2025 academic year, the reimbursement will be as follows:
In cases where students have health insurance cards and seek medical treatment out-of-network, the cost coverage from the health insurance fund is defined within the benefits and coverage level for the insured as follows:
- At a central hospital: 40% of the inpatient treatment costs;
- At a provincial hospital: 100% of the inpatient treatment costs nationwide;
- At a district hospital: 100% of the outpatient treatment costs.
Note: Ethnic minorities and people from poor households who participate in health insurance and live in economically or socially disadvantaged areas, areas with special difficulties, island communes, or island districts, will have the cost of medical treatment at district hospitals, inpatient treatment at provincial and central hospitals covered by the health insurance fund according to their benefits and coverage levels.

What Information is showed on Students' Health Insurance Cards in Vietnam?
According to Article 12 of Decree 146/2018/ND-CP, the information reflected on health insurance cards issued by the social insurance authority includes:
- Personal information of the insured, including: Full name; gender; date of birth; address of residence or workplace.
- Health insurance coverage level
- The effective date of the health insurance card.
- Initial health insurance registration medical facility.
- Duration of health insurance participation.
- Photograph of the insured (except for children under 6 years) for those without photo identification issued by a competent authority or confirmation from the local police or other legitimate identification documents provided by educational institutions.
Students' health insurance cards contain similar information.
What is the Validity for Students' Health Insurance Cards in Vietnam?
Pursuant to Clause 7, Article 13 of Decree 146/2018/ND-CP, the validity of health insurance cards is as follows:

5. For the subjects stipulated in Clause 10, Article 3 of this Decree, the health insurance card is valid from the date specified in the approval decision of the competent state authority.
6. For the subjects stipulated in Clause 14, Article 3 of this Decree, the health insurance card is valid immediately upon organ donation.
7. For the subjects stipulated in Clause 3, Article 4 of this Decree:
a) Health insurance cards are issued annually for students in general education institutions, specifically:
- For first-grade students: Validity starts from October 01 of the first year of primary education;
- For twelfth-grade students: Validity lasts until the end of September 30 of that year.
b) Health insurance cards are issued annually for students in higher education or vocational education institutions, specifically:
- For first-year students: Validity starts from the date of enrollment, unless the health insurance card from the twelfth-grade is still valid;
- For final-year students: Validity lasts until the last day of the month in which the course concludes.
