What are rights and duties of students participating in school sports activities in Vietnam?
Based on Article 7 of Circular 48/2020/TT-BGDDT, the rights and duties of students participating in school sports activities are as follows:
(1) Duties
- Participate in training and competition activities according to the school's plan and the educational management agencies at all levels; join sports clubs according to their interests and age characteristics.
Students participating in sports competitions proposed by other organizations must have the school's permission.
- Annually, complete the contents of testing, evaluation, and physical fitness classification according to current regulations.
- Perform other duties of students according to current regulations.
(2) Rights
- Students have the right to participate in sports activities in the school; and are selected to participate in competitions at local, national, and international levels.
- Students with sports talents are selected and trained at sports talent schools according to regulations.
- Students who win gold, silver, or bronze medals in national-level sports competitions organized by educational management agencies and students who are members of Vietnam's national team participating in regional, continental, or world sports festivals are entitled to preferential policies when participating in high school enrollment exams, high school graduation exams, and university and college entrance exams according to current regulations.
- Receive assistance from the school, teachers, and lecturers to complete the Physical Education curriculum and meet the requirements for physical fitness evaluations and classifications. Students with congenital diseases can participate in training with appropriate content and forms.
- Students assigned by the school or educational management agencies at all levels to participate in sports competitions that require them to miss classes for more extended periods will have supplementary lessons arranged by the school to ensure they meet the conditions to participate in exams and obtain credits according to regulations.
- Students who are athletes focused on training with the national team or in training centers for athletes at provincial, city, sectoral, and national levels are facilitated by educational management agencies at all levels to continue their studies regularly to ensure the completion of general education programs and training levels appropriate to their age in a suitable form.
- Enjoy other rights of students according to current regulations.

What are the regulations on facilities for students participating in sports activities in Vietnam?
Based on Article 7 of Circular 48/2020/TT-BGDDT, the facilities for students participating in sports activities are stipulated as follows:
- Departments, sectors, organizations, and local authorities create conditions for schools to use: fields, training areas, multi-purpose training houses, gyms, swimming pools, and sports equipment on-site to serve physical education and sports activities in schools.
- Enhance socialization to attract organizations and individuals to invest in building, upgrading, and renovating sports facilities and training equipment in schools and communities to meet students' sports activity needs.
What contents do sports activities in schools for students include?
Based on Chapter 2 of Circular 48/2020/TT-BGDDT, the contents of organizing sports activities in schools for students include:
(1) Sports Clubs (Article 3 Circular 48/2020/TT-BGDDT)
- Establish, manage, and develop sports clubs based on the actual conditions of the school and the training needs, interests, and health of students.
Each school has at least one sports club operating regularly and orderly.
- Arrange reasonable time, integrate sports club activities with the Physical Education subject in the educational program at all educational levels and training levels, ensuring consistency, contributing to the comprehensive development of physical education and school sports.
- Organize the development of swimming, traditional martial arts, and ethnic sports according to the local tradition and actual conditions.
(2) Training and Competitions (Article 4 Circular 48/2020/TT-BGDDT)
- Establish and maintain regular training for key sports teams as the core for the school's sports activities.
- Organize, maintain regular morning exercise, and mid-hour exercises; effectively utilize the school's facilities and integrate training with music to create a joyful, engaging atmosphere, attracting students to participate actively.
- Organize at least one sports competition for students each year. The contents and forms of competitions must be suitable for the students' psychological and physiological characteristics and the school's facilities; assign students to participate in national and international sports competitions.
(3) Guiding and Educating on Enhancing Skills in Sports Activities (Article 5 Circular 48/2020/TT-BGDDT)
- Guide and educate to raise awareness about safety skills for teachers and students in physical exercises and sports activities.
- Integrate related projects, plans, and programs to ensure reasonable nutrition and increase physical activities for students to enhance their health, height, and physical fitness.
- Increase the application of information technology to collect exercise and sports exercises to diversify training contents and forms.
Guide students and parents to utilize online information safely and effectively for physical and sports activities.
- Guide and train physical education teachers and lecturers on knowledge and skills to identify and nurture sports-talented students in schools.
- Organize counseling and orientation for students to participate in training and competitions in sports to enhance physical fitness and development.
