What are requirements for a student achieving 03 levels in the Biology subject program in Vietnam?
What are requirements for a student achieving 03 levels in the Biology subject program in Vietnam?
Based on Section 8 of the General Education Curriculum for Biology, issued with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, students achieving the three levels in the Biology Program satisfy the following knowledge conditions:
Know
- Identify (identify some plant symptoms due to mineral deficiency), name (name some organs involved in balancing the internal environment and homeostasis), define (define the concept of excretion), mention subjects, concepts, life processes (mention concepts like internal environment, dynamic balance).
- Present the characteristics and roles of subjects and life processes through various forms of expression such as verbal, written language, formulas, diagrams, charts,... (present the role of the kidneys in excretion and homeostasis).
Understand
- Classify objects, phenomena based on different criteria (distinguish between tubular nervous systems and nerve net systems and chain ganglia).
- Analyze the characteristics of an object, phenomenon, or process according to a certain logic (analyze the mechanism of receiving and responding to stimuli in sensory organs (ear, eye)).
- Compare, select objects, concepts, or processes based on criteria (compare sexual reproduction with asexual reproduction in plants).
- Outline, find keywords; use scientific language when reading and presenting scientific texts, using different forms of expressive language; logically connect information meaningfully (outline, write reports when investigating the use of fertilizers locally or practicing plant cultivation with appropriate fertilization techniques).
- Explain the relationship between objects and phenomena (cause-effect, structure-function,...) (explain how abnormal cell division can lead to cancer).
- Identify errors and correct them; discuss and provide critical assessments related to the topic (discuss an issue or a report).
Apply
- Recognize and explain practical problems and technological models based on biological knowledge and cite evidence for those issues (explain some practical issues: family marriage, self-pollination in plants, close breeding in animals reducing productivity and quality).
- Critically evaluate the impact of a practical issue (evaluate the significance of penalizing traffic participants for alcohol usage).
- Based on understanding and investigative data, propose solutions and implement some solutions to protect the health of oneself, family, and the community; protect nature, the environment; adapt to climate change and develop reasonable behaviors and attitudes for sustainable development (implement measures to prevent some common human diseases; investigate some common human diseases and propagate disease prevention (influenza, cholera, dengue fever, HIV/AIDS,...)).

What is the duration of the Biology Program in Vietnam?
Based on Subsection 2 of Section 8 of the General Education Curriculum for Biology, issued with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, the duration of the Biology program for each grade is 105 periods/year, taught over 35 weeks. Of that, the core content covers 70 periods.
The expected percentage distribution of time for each content strand is as follows:
GRADE | Topic | Time Allocation |
Grade 10 | Introduction | 6% |
General Introduction to Organizational Levels of the Living World | 3%
Cell Biology | 54% | |
Microbial and Viral Biology | 27%
Periodic Assessment | 10%
Grade 11 | Metabolism and Energy Conversion in Organisms | 41% |
Response in Organisms | 17%
Growth and Development in Organisms | 18%
Reproduction in Organisms | 14%
Periodic Assessment | 10%
Grade 12 | Genetics | 46% |
Evolution | 18% | |
Ecology and Environment | 26%
Periodic Assessment | 10% |
The time allocated for specialized learning topics is 35 periods. The expected number of periods for each specialized topic (including testing and evaluation) is as follows:
Specialized Topic Name | Grade 10 | Grade 11 | Grade 12 |
Specialized Topic 10.1: Cellular Technology and Achievements | 15
Specialized Topic 10.2: Enzyme Technology and Applications | 10

Specialized Topic 11.3: Food Safety and Hygiene | 10
Specialized Topic 12.1: Molecular Biology | 15
Specialized Topic 12.2: Biological Control | 10
Specialized Topic 12.3: Human Ecology | 10 |
Does the Biology teaching equipment in Vietnam include human body models?
Based on Subsection 3 of Section 8 of the General Education Curriculum for Biology, issued with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT:
Teaching Equipment
Biology is an experimental science, thus practical experiments are both content and a method, and a teaching tool. Additionally, the curriculum is designed to develop capabilities by connecting theory with practice and learning theory through practice. Under this orientation, it is necessary to equip diverse teaching tools: pictures, images, models, real specimens, tools, materials, chemicals, audiovisual equipment, various machines.
The Biology teaching equipment set includes:
a) Equipment for demonstration and illustration
- Models: human body; circulatory system; response in organisms; genetic material structure; gene-environment relationship
- phenotype; evidence and mechanisms of evolution.
The human body model is one of the demonstration and illustration tools included in the Biology Teaching Equipment Set.
