Based on the provisions specified in Article 3 of Circular 48/2011/TT-BGDDT:
Working hours and annual leave for teachers
1. The working hours for preschool teachers in a year are 42 weeks, including:
a) 35 weeks for nurturing, caring, and educating children (hereafter referred to as teaching children);
b) 04 weeks for professional and technical training;
c) 02 weeks for preparing the new school year;
d) 01 week for summarizing the school year.
2. The annual leave for preschool teachers includes summer break and other holidays. To be specific:
a) The summer break for teachers is 08 weeks, with full salary and allowances, if any;
b) Other holidays are implemented following the Labor Code and current regulations.
Based on the school year's plan, scale, characteristics, and specific conditions of each school, the Principal arranges annual leave for teachers reasonably.
Therefore, preschool teachers have an 08-week summer break with full salary and allowances, if any, before they resume teaching.
However, this period can be adjusted by the Principal to reasonably arrange annual leave for teachers based on the school year's plan, scale, characteristics, and specific conditions of each school.

What are regulations on the teaching hours of preschool teachers in Vietnam?
According to Article 4 of Circular 48/2011/TT-BGDDT, the teaching hours for preschool teachers are regulated as follows:
Case 1: For teachers instructing children in groups, kindergarten classes with 02 sessions/day, each teacher teaches in class for 6 hours/day and performs tasks preparing for teaching hours in class as well as other assignments designated by the Principal to ensure a 40-hour workweek.
Case 2: For teachers instructing children in groups, kindergarten classes with 01 session/day, each teacher teaches in class for 04 hours/day and performs tasks preparing for teaching hours in class as well as other assignments designated by the Principal to ensure a 40-hour workweek.
Case 3: For teachers teaching inclusive classes with disabled children, each teacher teaches for the regulated hours in paragraphs 1 or 2 of this Article; specifically, for each disabled child/class, each teacher is counted an additional 0.5 teaching hours/day.
Case 4: For principals and vice-principals, in addition to performing the tasks of principals or vice-principals as per the kindergarten regulations, principals must directly participate in educational activities (teaching children or observing teaching sessions within the school) for 02 hours per week; vice-principals must directly participate in educational activities for 04 hours per week.
Accordingly, the teaching hours for preschool teachers vary depending on which class the teachers are instructing.
* Note: Preschool teachers will have reduced hours if they undertake additional responsibilities, specifically: + Teachers serving as non-specialist chairpersons or vice-chairpersons of the grassroots trade union are reduced 06 teaching hours per week (equivalent to 210 teaching hours per school year); + Teachers serving as members of the trade union executive committee; non-specialist group leaders or deputy group leaders are reduced 03 teaching hours per week (equivalent to 105 teaching hours per school year). + Reduced 03 teaching hours/week if serving as professional team leader. + A teacher cannot hold more than 02 titles simultaneously and is entitled to the hour reduction policy for the highest-ranking title. How to calculate the overtime pay for preschool teachers in Vietnam?
According to Article 4 of the Joint Circular 07/2013/TTLT-BGDDT-BNV-BTC, the overtime pay calculation for preschool teachers is done as follows:
* Formula for calculating overtime pay:
- Overtime pay/school year = additional teaching hours/school year x Pay rate per additional teaching hour;
- Pay rate per additional teaching hour = Pay rate per teaching hour x 150%;
- Pay rate per teaching hour:
+ For teachers in preschools, general education schools, vocational schools, and teachers, lecturers in vocational training institutions:
Pay rate per teaching hour = (Total annual salary for 12 months : Annual teaching hour norm) x (Number of weeks dedicated to teaching : 52 weeks)
For educators in management or assigned to task management positions for Youth Union, Union, League activities in preschools, general education schools, vocational schools, and vocational training institutions, the calculation is as per the stated formula. The annual teaching hour norm is the same as that of regular teachers of equivalent level, grade, and subject at the respective educational institution;
+ For lecturers in higher education institutions, training, and development institutes under Ministries, equal-level agencies, agencies under the Government of Vietnam, Provincial Political Schools under central cities and provincial direct administration:
Pay rate per teaching hour = (Total annual salary for 12 months : Annual teaching hour norm) x (22.5 weeks : 52 weeks)
For educators in management positions or assigned responsibilities for Youth Union, League involved in teaching at higher education institutions, training, and development institutes under Ministries, equal-level agencies, agencies under the Government of Vietnam, Provincial Political Schools under central cities and provincial direct administration, it is computed as per the stated formula. The annual teaching hour norm is the same as that of regular lecturers of equivalent titles and subjects at the respective educational institution;
