- Collects and processes information through activities like observation, monitoring, exchanging, testing, and commenting on the students’ learning and training processes;

- Provides advice, guidance, and encouragement to students;

- Interprets qualitative or quantitative information regarding student learning results, training, and the formation and development of certain qualities and competencies of primary school students.

What are the purposes of assessing primary school students in Vietnam?

Based on Article 3 of the Regulations on the assessment of primary school students issued with Circular 27/2020/TT-BGDDT, the purposes of assessing primary school students are to provide accurate, timely information, determine the academic and training achievements according to the level of meeting the required educational outcomes of the primary education program and the students' progress to guide learning activities and adjust teaching activities to improve the quality of education. To be specific:

- Helping teachers adjust and innovate the forms of organization and educational methods during teaching and education; promptly detecting the students' efforts and progress to motivate and encourage them, and identifying the difficulties students cannot overcome on their own to guide and assist, thus improving the quality and efficiency of students' learning and training activities; contributing to achieving the primary education goals.

- Helping students self-review, participate in reviews; self-study, self-adjust learning methods; communicate, cooperate; develop an interest in learning and training to make progress.

- Helping parents or guardians (hereinafter referred to as parents) participate in evaluating the process and results of students' learning and training, the formation, and development of students' qualities and competencies; actively cooperating with schools in educational activities for students.

- Helping educational managers at all levels promptly direct educational activities, innovate teaching methods, and assessment methods to achieve effective education.

- Helping social organizations grasp accurate and objective information, leveraging social resources to invest in educational development.

What are the contents and methods of assessing primary school students in Vietnam?

Based on Article 5 of the Regulations on the assessment of primary school students issued with Circular 27/2020/TT-BGDDT, the contents and methods of assessing primary school students are as follows:

* Assessment Content

- Assessing the learning process, progress, and learning outcomes of students meeting the required achievements and specific indicators of the competence elements of each subject and educational activity according to the general education program for primary education.

- Assessing the formation and development of students' qualities and competencies through essential qualities and core competencies as follows:

+ Essential qualities: Patriotism, kindness, diligence, honesty, responsibility.

+ Core competencies:

++) General competencies: autonomy and self-learning, communication and cooperation, problem-solving, and creativity.

++) Specific competencies: language, mathematics, science, technology, informatics, aesthetics, physical education.

* Assessment Methods

Some commonly used assessment methods in assessing students include:

- Observation method: Teachers observe and listen to students during classroom teaching, using observation sheets, checklists, and diaries to record students' behaviors and use them as evidence for assessing students' learning and training processes.

- Assessment through study records, students' products, and activities: Teachers comment on and assess students' products and activity outcomes, thereby assessing students according to the relevant assessment contents.

- Oral assessment method: Teachers interact with students through Q&A sessions to gather information and promptly provide feedback and assistance.

- Written assessment method: Teachers use tests consisting of questions and exercises designed according to the achievement levels required by the program, in the formats of multiple-choice, written or a combination of both, to assess the achievement of the educational content.

What does the assessment dossier of primary school students in Vietnam include?

Based on Article 10 of the Regulations on assessing primary school students issued with Circular 27/2020/TT-BGDDT, the assessment dossier of primary school students serves as evidence for students' learning, training processes, and learning outcomes; it provides information to enhance student educational coordination between teachers, the school, and parents.

The assessment dossier for each academic year of each student includes a Report Card and a Summary Sheet of the class's overall assessment results.

- The Summary Sheet of the class's overall assessment results is stored at the school according to regulations.

- The Report Card is maintained by the school throughout the students' tenure at the school and is handed over to students upon completion of the primary program or school transfer.
